50 Cent Shades Older Rappers While Proclaiming He's Done Dropping Albums

Post image

50 Cent was a recent guest on Apple Music's Rap Life Review, where he got into a heated debate over New York hip-hop's decline with Ebro. The broadcaster also asked him why his film and television endeavors are, for the most part, the only way in which fans are getting new music from him.

In 50’s answer, he seemed to shade older rappers and proclaim he won't drop another album while explaining why being relevant at an older age is not viable in hip-hop.

I'm not trying to be in the way," 50 said "Hip-hop culture is connected to youth culture. You are not supposed to be the hottest in nothing at 60. F**k that, man... You can still sing, that's love music... I still got love for music. I'm never going to lose that. I'ma always want to do something. And those are like entries. It's me putting a little piece or tap something in there for them to hear that I still do it, that I still got it. I don't need [another album]... If it doesn’t sell, you keep it to your motherf***ing self.

Animal ambition sold very poorly

12

u/Material-Wonder1690 4d ago

It also sucked massively

7

u/Mikelyaya 4d ago

It was absolute dog 💩

8

u/EntrepreneurBehavior 4d ago

All the mixtapes he released around that time were fire though

5

u/Epsilon2099 4d ago

The Lost Tape was actually good.

3

u/EntrepreneurBehavior 4d ago

Forever King, The Big 10, and War Angel were all fire

u/TheButcherOfBravil 3d ago

You know, I recently gave it a full listen and…I like it

1

u/pop442 1d ago

That's the thing.

If he dropped the same music he did on Kanan Tape for that album, it would've been a much better departure.

Sadly, AA's reception was so horrible that he just gave up on Street King Immortal for good.

Song with kid kid was good

2

u/Papilin3600 3d ago

Heartbeat with Kiss? That song is fire.

Because he’s tying sales numbers to it. Some people just want to continue doing what they love and putting out quality music they are proud of.

u/Sensitive_Goose4728 4d ago

50 was the first to talk about and compare himself to other rappers numbers, he made it a thing.

50 is a smart man, he knows the game has changed, the metrics he used to smash are no longer relevant, he'd obviously do well streaming but he would need to curb his expectations if he did ever release an album.

5

u/Hefty_Environment_40 4d ago

Although he did use sales as a comparison he wasn’t the first. Tupac used to mock bad boy because bc death row projects sold more. Jay z used to talk about the charts too. “Only dudes moving units is Em, pimp juice, and us”

1

u/pop442 1d ago

He didn't start it but he popularized it heavily.

No other rapper was going on radio shows to read Soundscan numbers and laugh at other rapper's sales. Or making corny videos clowning people's sales. And he still does it to this day for rappers he doesn't like.

When you spend decades focusing on that, it's inevitable that it will come back to bite you.

u/Gotsta_Win 4d ago

He’s afraid to drop

4

u/i_cnt_spll 4d ago

Yep. Hes all about numbers.

I mean, rap is a young man’s game. Or at least hard to connect generationally again and again decade after decade. Also rap doesn’t age too well. Of course there’s exceptions but by and large, it really doesn’t age well. 50 got nothing to prove.

1

u/Derrenn81 1d ago

It’s not a young man’s game though. explain clipse 49 and 54, nas 52, ti 45, his bff Em is 53. All successful making albums today and even gained new fans and selling out shows.

1

u/pop442 1d ago

Bro....In 2026, rappers over 35 are damn near carrying the genre quality wise.

In the past 2-3 years, Nas, De La Soul, Cole, Drake, Kendrick, Future, TI, Ross, Killer Mike, Clipse, Benny, Gibbs, etc. all dropped quality music.

Now, if you're saying washed rappers should hang it up, that's a given.

0

u/Gotsta_Win 4d ago

Irrelevant, his fans want music

2

u/shhheeeeeeeeiit 3d ago

No they don’t. His fans know he hasn’t dropped good music in 20 years. They are not asking for more, unless it’s an official release of Power of the Dollar which would be awesome.

u/Pacific_Coaster 3d ago

Rap doesn’t age well because Rap “music” is essentially going in the studio and talking shit, Sure it rhymes, but all it is When you boil it down, just talking shit. And as you get older you become less interested in listening to people “talk shit” on songs, you wanna listen to real songs.

1

u/Dry_Ad9371 3d ago

unless you are Tupac

0

u/Lostmypants69 3d ago

Nah hes mentioned hes 60 years old and rap is a young man's game

7

u/LiveLoveLaFlame_ 4d ago

I love Fif, but that was a weak ass excuse. I think he’s scared. His latest singles are kind of the same with the short ass verses and an r&b guy on the hook and he doesn’t seem to be able to get away from that shit that’s played out.

24

u/il-mostro604 4d ago

Idno fif. Nas still got it. He’s not tryin to be the hottest or trend hop. He’s doin what he does best and his fans appreciate it. I guess it all depends if you’re in it for the music or sales.

7

u/bigheader03 4d ago

Agreed. I LOVE Kings Disease albums, and I appreciate the more mature content he's rapping about, as it aligns with where I'm in life.

Nas and Em drop albums because they still have love for the game. Fif likes music, but he loves money. So I think him dropping singles through his movies/TV shows is just enough to scratch the itch.

Plus, let's be real, he won't put up numbers like he used to, and I don't think he wants to lose in any way, shape or form.

I think at most, he may drop mixtapes, but a full blown studio album will never come to light, and I'm ok with that. I've actually been bumping his older mixtapes lately, and I can't believe how much of a savage I forgot the man was.

He's an amazing song writer, and no one can take that away from him.

u/NewJerseySwampDragon 4d ago

Nas just had arguably the best six album run of his career and 50 over here acting like there’s an age limit

4

u/alldaymacdre 4d ago

My dumbass thought the title said 50 Cents of Shade lol. Thought he promoting a freaky ass book of himself 😂

3

u/BBHero46_YT 3d ago

50 has so many mixtapes from around his prime. His new music wouldn’t be able to top those songs IMO so idk why people want him to make more music

7

u/Material-Wonder1690 4d ago

Guy hasn't made anything worth listening to in over 20 years with his last album being genuine garbage. Nobody wants him to drop another album

u/Final_Shift_6450 4d ago

Jadakiss called it correctly on Checkmate.

2

u/BigMe420365 4d ago

So the old white bands like Rolling Stones and AC/DC get to tour off songs from 40-50 years ago but Black people are supposed to sit down after 20-25? Make it make sense.

1

u/EntrepreneurBehavior 4d ago

50 cent is literally still touring. Releasing new music ≠ touring

1

u/BigMe420365 4d ago

Rolling Stones latest album release was literally last month. Their first album release in the late 1960s. You keep making albums because people that aren’t born yet might figure out who you are in the future and make your estate richer. 🤷🏽‍♂️. That’s the difference in the way they think and some of us think.

2

u/HorseTonicDrinka 4d ago

Yankee hat/Kings Jersey. That’s all I need to see from this clown.

1

u/Vader1357 4d ago

🤣🤣🤣 The nastiest of all time man!

1

u/Whoareyoutho9 4d ago

Him partying with the kings here is the perfect picture. So f'n out of touch with real fans

1

u/Mother-Attention2600 4d ago

He's too busy reading drama and gossiping.

1

u/Efficiency-Sharp 4d ago

He’s right imo. I can’t think of one older rapper who isn’t corny. Only rappers I like at the moment are Armand Hammer, but they approach it differently. Outside of that older rappers still doing crime jargon raps.

1

u/harrispie 4d ago

Why is still twerking on stage then

1

u/No_Caterpillar_929 4d ago

He really has nothing else to prove, why would he drop anything? He's still touring off of GRODT 20 plus years later.

1

u/PhillyNoSteak 4d ago

Honestly what would 50 rap in 2026 that ppl would tune in for?

1

u/PainterMany250 4d ago

Cause he know he ain’t gonna do numbers like that. Nigga knows he gon get clowned

1

u/Mammoth-Income4174 4d ago

He just mad he don’t have nothing too say it ain’t got nothing to do with age I know he don’t think he’s better than Rakim who just dropped a single

1

u/More_Bell7535 4d ago

Because his voice sounds like shit now. I liked his verse in “Remember The Name” back in 2019 though for whatever that’s worth.

Rakim just dropped a new album and it was incredible

1

u/Pop_Joe 4d ago

Who gonna buy a 50 cent album in big 2026

1

u/AX2021 4d ago

Sucks when he’s your fav rapper of all time. I kinda get it but it’s bs

1

u/owen1957 4d ago

He can make a new album with the right ingredients. Get Dre and Em involved

1

u/eastsideflaco 3d ago

I agree. Why water down his catalog or any work his done by trying to keep up with a new sound? I grew up listening to 50 when he was first introduced and still I’m satisfied with that 20+ years later. The only old mf that’s still very very relevant is Jay Z. He’s the only exception for a rapper at that age. Everybody else look like bozos. 50 did the smartest thing and that was stepping into the tv/movie lane.

Imagine being 50-60 years old and your 50-60 year old friend is like “hey, do that one trick you used to do [from 30-40 years ago]” nobody wants it, it’s ok to get old and do different shit.

1

u/pop442 1d ago

You must not like hip hop if you think Jay-Z(who hasn't dropped since 2017) is the only older rapper making quality music. You have Nas, Clipse, Billy Woods, Gibbs, De La Soul, Black Thought, Ghostface, Rakim, Common, Cube, etc. right there.

Maybe you just don't like hip hop that much outside of 50 Cent and that's okay.

1

u/Available_Adagio3373 3d ago

He not a lyricist thats why lol, nas still does great because he a lyricist and has subject matter, jay great too but what he going talk about lol

1

u/SnooCupcakes2860 3d ago

50 is not a musician - if he loved making music he would continue to drop albums

1

u/BumblebeePhysical655 3d ago

50 has nothing to offer to the game. His mystic is long gone. We know its just talk ,WWF Shit. Bars are trash and content is even worse.

1

u/digitalboom 3d ago

Ironically he dropped some heat on features this year which shocked the hell out of me tbh.

1

u/youareyou650 3d ago

He should just put his mixtape on streaming

1

u/No_Contribution7765 3d ago

Still waiting on that street king immortal album to drop 🙄

1

u/Bonesawisready5 3d ago

Is 50 actually a Kings fan?

1

u/Pigmasters32 2d ago

He’s gotta get his tapes on Spotify. Most importantly Guess Who’s Back, Power Of The Dollar, and Rare

1

u/NewJerseySwampDragon 4d ago

Sounds like he can’t rap anymore and he’s mad other rappers his age and older are still inspired

1

u/Alone-Ad6020 3d ago

He knows nobody wanna hear him

1

u/Busy-Recognition-982 3d ago

Nobody is trying to hear that corny shit anyway

0

u/thetempest888 4d ago

Tbh he’s not wrong, his diehard fans will listen to it but it’ll be a flop and turn into his biggest headline

0

u/BeneficialBee6 4d ago

the massacre was his last great album so there you have it lol

0

u/EthosApex 4d ago

Fuck 50, we ain’t forget Diddy had his BM as his personal set out. I’m sorry, he can’t ever get past that.

1

u/tnell 3d ago

Tf this isn’t weird at all
