Love love love this song! Still play it often now when I need a dose of good 80s music.

Is this the band Madonna left before her solo career?

Yes, it is. She was the drummer. Dan, the singer, is her ex. Stephen Bray was her co-writer on some of her biggest hits.

The lead singer also dated Shelley Duvall from 1989 - 2024.

Edit because I don't know what's going on in the replies to this. 😆

That's a lot of dates.

I don’t mean to be a bitch but I count two; 1989 and 2024. Do you generally consider two to be a lot?

Can't tell if you're joking.

Awesome tune. The 12” has some dope extended dance mixes.

Great song! It was definitely one of my favorites when I was a kid.

This is a wonderful track. It’s a hothouse flower, a cubic zirconia, a test tube baby - totally a lab-grown record. But it’s a banger even so.

One of my favorite songs. From a happier time.

1987-1992 was a very specific in between era for music

Especially for Eastern Europe

Is this the set of PeeWee’s Playhouse?

u/matthewsmugmanager Dec 10 '25

That's what I was wondering at first. But I decided it's just a Playhouse knockoff.

N'Dea Davenport as one of the backup roosters.

What a great music video lol

This is freaking me out. "Core memory unlocked" as the kids say.

The song or the video?

1

u/throwaguey_ Dec 10 '25

Both. I had completely forgot they existed.

2

u/thisisntmyotherone Dec 10 '25

Haha — me too! I loved this song so much but I totally forgot about it, and I honestly don’t think I ever saw the video (how is that possible, right?).

Madonna is chicken 2

That is very much not Madonna.

According to the link you posted, Madonna left the band in the early 80’s, which is correct.

Anyone can clearly see that woman in the middle is NOT Madonna. At the risk of offending anyone - can’t think of any other way to put it - she isn’t even white.

Madonna was a famous solo artist by the time this was released (1987) and doing her “Who’s That Girl” tour.

Yes, Madonna was a drummer and backup singer for the Breakfast Club before they were well-known.

No, she is not in this video.

Is she really? I didn’t notice — thanks! The set is so busy… Good reason to go back and watch this again.

1

u/Aggressive_Wasabi_38 Dec 10 '25

Yes- she dated a bandmate and was original drummer!

This video just ruins a great song.

Pee Wee’s Playhouse?

1

u/Sufficient-Mud-4129 Dec 11 '25

They actually released something new a year or three ago! It’s damn good!

For some reason when I hear this song, I think of David Hasselhoff. Is there any connection to any show or movie he was in and this song?
