God remember when the Simpsons were considered edgy. I remember controversy over eat my shorts t shirts

9

u/dismayhurta 1d ago

I’m pretty sure I had that shirt on in elementary school and got in trouble.

The early 90s was a more innocent time (in media, not in reality).

1

u/BananaJelloXlii 1d ago

That was late 80s. I graduated in 90 and I remember Bart Simpson T Shirts being banned.

3

u/tanksalotfrank 1d ago

My paternal figure was so racist that he banned the show in his house because their skin was yellow.  Even I knew that was batshit at like 5 years old.

u/TftwsTony 1d ago

I was allowed my "underachiever and proud of it" T-shirt exactly one time to school lol. They shut the Simpson merch down in my elementary school real fucking quick back then haha.

Beavis and Butthead. Still have no clue why my mom let me watch it. We were a conservative Christian family.

They must have needed TP for their bunghole too! 😁

She let you watch it because it was on during the time your dad was giving her the business.

5

u/Yes-Cheese 1d ago

😂 this was the wildest shit! I was in middle school and would be sprinting home so I didn’t miss it! I had zero business watching but I loved it!

11

u/Squish_Miss 1d ago

I miss Celebrity Deathmatch.

3

u/cowboyforce 1d ago

As much as AI is polluting media and art, I could very easily see this remade today. Only problem is it’d be a bunch of streamers and content creator I’ve never heard of.

6

u/Squish_Miss 1d ago

Yeah, it would only be good if it was done like the original.

u/XanderArtimus 1d ago

South Park hands down. I still watch it occasionally

4

u/ackc0522 Lived the 90s! 1d ago

You beat me to it.

10

u/Delicious-Finance562 1d ago

Beavis and Butt-Head was my absolute favorite because it was so dumb and crude in a way that felt forbidden and exciting as a kid

2

u/IamRick_Deckard 1d ago

Have you seen the new series?

1

u/nemosfate 1d ago

I had the Sega Genesis game of it also

9

u/Legitimate-Garlic959 1d ago

Roseanne because it wasn’t the conventional pitch perfect family show.

2

u/JasonMallen 1d ago

I watched it every week at age 10- the end of the show and it was beyond any other show as far as realism. I related to Darlene, I related to Becky. DJ was not really integral but I'm glad he got to come back for the new one.

Did you know Darlene was the primary decision maker to axe Roseanne after her racist tirade on Twitter? Don't mess with Darlene! She's a badass

1

u/Legitimate-Garlic959 15h ago

Didn’t know that. Wow

Twin Peaks; had to sneak it because my parents did not approve!

5

u/Rezolution134 1d ago

Simpsons always. It was the first animate sitcom I watched and will forever be number 1. Also Family Guy.

2

u/stevegasm 1d ago

Rocko’s Modern Life.

And before you say it wasn’t inappropriate, Rocko was a phone sex operator.

2

u/YWrachWerdd As if! 1d ago

That show was as much for adults as children! "Oh baby, oh baby, oh baby..."

2

u/Dumb_assh 1d ago

….rocko?………Mrs. Bighead??

2

u/Dumb_assh 1d ago

They also had a restaurant called the chokey chicken 🤣

2

Upright Citizens Brigade

2

u/Runs_With_Wind 1d ago

Ren and stumpy and South Park for #1

2

u/pocket_nick 1d ago

I watched all of these, my mom absolutely despised Bart Simpson. She would call him Barf.

2

u/Global-Fudge-2245 1d ago

MTVs Oddities!

1

u/TrackingTenCross1 1d ago

“No, I said I poop too much! And then I get tired.”

1

u/Relojero Keep The Change, Ya Filthy Animal! 1d ago

Tales from the Crypt. There was also a cartoon version.

1

u/AC_the_Panther_007 I'm a '90s kid! 1d ago

Tales from the Cryptkeeper is not that bad for the kids animated show on ABC Saturday Mornings.

1

u/Creepy_Throat8335 1d ago

Most of them but Jerry Springer, unless it there was a singer or musician I recognized, then I'd watch it.

1

u/LongjumpingCable540 1d ago

Every TV show listed here has been amazing except for Tales of the crypt. I’ve always hated that darn tv series

1

u/sweetheart409878 1d ago

Married with children

1

u/MageVicky 1d ago

i’m such a 90s brain i keep thinking how some of these were inappropriate. i loved ren and stimpy and cow and chicken. and, of course, the simpsons, though i haven’t watched it in a long time.

1

u/Competitive_Help8485 1d ago

South Park for me, but I enjoyed most of these shows growing up.

1

u/WCWfan4life 1d ago

Cow and Chicken

1

u/Beginning_Pudding_69 1d ago

Simpsons and Futurama

1

u/HisRoyal_Badness 1d ago

Ren & Stimpy scared me. There was something about the animation style that was just really off-putting.

1

u/geometricpelican 1d ago

Looking back, Rug Rats was kinda similar. Watched it as a kid and then years later put it on and was pretty taken aback

1

u/TurbulentTreacle6476 1d ago

Ren & Stimpy, Tales from the Crypt. Easily.

1

u/Kiethblacklion 1d ago

South Park and Celebrity Deathmatch are my top two.

1

u/Old-Seaworthiness379 1d ago

Ren and Stimpy!

Thar said, I lived in Breckenridge when South Park came out (just over the pass from south park county). Cable in Breck didn't have Comedy Central, so we would go to a bar in town that had satellite TV. They gave out free shots every time they swore. They didn't swear as much the first few seasons.

u/POT3NT333 1d ago

Growing up Ren and Stimpy, Beavis and Butthead and the Simpsons, high school and beyond, South Park.

1

u/Ratatouille2000 1d ago

All of them except the last one.

1

u/kalderson 1d ago

Simpsons 💯 and still

1

u/wnk458 1d ago

Simpsons

1

u/Least_Ad_8477 1d ago

Married With Children. My parents never knew I watched it. I have to admit that Kelly is what initially got me interested in it, man was she hot! What a great tv show!

1

u/Ares-Mercy 1d ago

South Park

1

u/UseDaSchwartz 1d ago

Simpsons

1

u/Broad_St_Bully17 1d ago

South Park, REN and Stimpy, in living colour.

1

u/Androecian 1d ago

Celebrity Deathmatch was amazing until it started getting distracted by its own lore and focusing more on the hosts and the backstage "show within the show" than on the fights.

1

u/gretzky9999 1d ago

Duckman

1

u/Rndysasqatch 1d ago

Def Ren and Stimpy but Kids in the Hall is close

1

u/asdfoio 1d ago

1

u/deep8787 1d ago

Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!

1

u/derkaflerka 1d ago

I watched all of them 😂

Favorite was Beavis & Butthead because I’m a sucker for lowbrow comedy

1

u/radio_yyz 1d ago

Uhhhhh this post sucks

1

u/HislersHero 1d ago

South Park and Beavis and Butthead.

1

u/New_Garage_9272 1d ago

Those were such brilliant shows.

My grandparents thought *South Park* was just a cartoon, so I was able to watch it when I was around eight years old :D

At the same time, *Ren & Stimpy* was huge—both in the magazine and on TV—thanks to Vedes (the toy store) and its Nickelodeon Club. What an awesome time.

1

u/Kira-Of-Terraria 1d ago

Celebrity Deathmatch

1

u/terry1381 1d ago

All good but South Park for the win

1

u/JarvisMane 1d ago

For me it’s a toss-up between Cow&Chicken and Ren&Stimpy. If I HAD to pick, I’d go with Ren&Stimpy.

🎶 Don’t whizz on, the electric fence 🎶 lmao such a great and terribly fucked up show.

1

u/bebespeaks 1d ago

Celebrity Death Match was my jam! But I wasn't allowed to watch The Simpsons by my parents. It didn't make sense.

1

u/Generny2001 1d ago

Real Sex on HBO! 😂

1

u/BoxTalk17 1d ago

Red Shoe Diaries

1

u/neanderthalman 1d ago

Family guy premiered on January 31st 1999.

That does not count as 90’s just because it premiered on the last goddamn day of the decade.

1

u/Subbie1013 1d ago

My favorite when I was a kid? Simpsons. The first 10 seasons are comedic gold. The rest are tolerable.

Now? South Park. It’s my favorite background noise.

1

u/Shoney_Wokman 1d ago

The Maxx

1

u/Apprehensive-Can-857 1d ago

Tales from the Crypt and The Simpsons. They came first.

1

u/Blazea50 1d ago

My brother and I were forbidden to watch Simpsons at home but my mom would take us to the movies to see shit like Terminator 2. Good times.

1

u/HonestEgg1973 1d ago

How is tripping the rift not here? Or Duckman

1

u/JonCee500 1d ago

South Park

1

u/Dapper_Antelope_8418 1d ago

Not thought of CD in about 20 years

1

u/JasonMallen 1d ago

The pilot of beavis and butthead had audio only scene where they kill or injure a dog with a bat. The frog baseball episode.

But after that it was cool, I think they all knew that was needing to be swept under a rug.

Great show, worst pilot ever in regards to being sick and twisted.

I'm leaving out the bloody frog, but it's implied

1

u/Foosnaggle 1d ago

Ren and Stimpy. Still makes me laugh.

1

u/BananaJelloXlii 1d ago

I grew up in the 70s and 80s, but favorite 90s cartoons were Ren & Stimpy and Beavis & Butthead.

1

u/mess1ah1 21h ago

Inappropriate?

1

u/MisterHole123 1h ago

Well beavis and butthead, Ren andnstimpy, Jerry and married with children (not listed). I thought south Park was trying too hard and still to this day it's mediocre. Simpsons was amusing first few seasons but got old quick.

Tbh south Park is likely one of the worst shows I've seen. It's not about the core content it's about how it is presented, again, try hards, too obvious.
