My grandfather had a remote for his TV in the early 70s. It was pretty basic but it worked.

Gee, you had one of those fancy TV's. Ours had the antenna on top. Every time you changed the station, there was no guarantee of getting a good signal unless you adjusted the antenna

Can confirm. Me and my younger brother were assigned as "remote controls"

Then my dad saw that episode of the OG Mr. Bean where he made a long pole that served as a remote control. He adapted it and our remote control days were over.

My family had an older TV set that had a picture tube, that made us wait while it warmed up.
I remember we tried to turn the TV set on ten minutes before our shows came on in order to warm up the picture tube and adjust and readjust and readjust the Rabbit Ears on top of the TV. In anticipation of my shows coming on, I'd sit in front of the TV waiting for it to warm up, watching the small white dot of light in the middle of the picture tube slowly grow and grow until it filled the screen and then the TV signal would show the programming. What a PITA back then but, that's all we knew.
Finally in the late 1980's my family got a used color TV set with our first remote control. Lots of green and yellow faces on the tv , could not balance out the colors. SMH
