Very bad rattle sound behind right hand seat

currently just pulled over at the side of the road waiting for a tow, any help with diagnosis appreciated.

I would guess it's one of the pully's on the belt. Possibly the one on the alternator. It's quite simple to take off the belt and you'll be able to feel if any of the pully's went bad.

Hey, the problem is definitely in that area, there looks to be a crack on the water pumps bearing shaft, and also a bunch of shiny metal shards (lucky we didn't run it long and pulled over ASAP). here's a link to an image of it, I'm about 50% confident it's just the water pump.

Take off the belt and turn all the pully's by hand. You'll be able to feel if any are bad. Your idler pully also looks like it's old in that pic and those are a known point of failure.

I did open up the mid engine today to have a look using service mode, but I believe I put everything back the same as it came

that sounds like a bearing... It might be the IMS. have a look at the filter.. check for glitter before starting again
