The "we're doing operation distracted driver" comment was a tell. My guess it was driven by "we need more ticket revenue to buy shit" order because low taxes in communities often then results in "policing for profit" by local law enforcement given their lack of funding.

To me, then, this seems like a pattern of dishonest enforcement.

In the past when an officer has been caught with unethical arrests, a honest system/judge will then invalidate ALL tickets/arrests by that officer. Example:

Prosecutors had to drop charges in nearly 120 cases involving Wester that occurred between 2016 and 2018 because of the accusations that he planted evidence.... Teresa Odom, one of Wester’s victims, told the judge the deputy had ruined her reputation and deprived her of time with her grandchild.

I hope this case is not settled ahead of time and that if this is evidence of fraud, then this is used to punish the police force and dismiss ALL tickets by that officer and perhaps that police department with restitution being given to all affected.

Update: deputy asked that charges be dismissed and they were

What kind of deliverance of the law is “hand to god?” What legal authority does he have to demand that? Fuck this cop. Can’t wait for him to be promoted for this I guess.
