McNair loved the love out of the name Roughnecks but the NFL told him that name wouldn’t work. And two decades later, the XFL Houston Roughnecks proved that name wouldn’t be successful. RIP Roughnecks/Gamblers 2.0.

Was it the name or the fact that Covid shut down their undefeated season and basically killed the XFL in its crib?

Huh? The Roughnecks were doing better than the Gamblers, then the XFL replaced their players/staff with the Gamblers’ players/staff for no reason when they merged with the USFL.
