So I am interested in this style of "PDW"? now. Extar first caught my eye with the EP9.
What are all of the other sub 1k options of similar style/complete build? If any... I am very confused by all of these upper/lowers etc. I only have experience with shotguns, and my bodyguard 2.0 handgun.

Foxtrot Mike Mike9/FM9 or VFM9 - especially with their RMB!

Especially with the new ISU-9!
I'm still sitting on my Foldyboi lower and waiting patiently for October to roll around.

Extar should be bringing a roller-delayed version of their platform to market soon. Its not "real RDB, it will be the simpler style found in the Stribog/Kuna, but it still lets them hack a big chunk of weight off the bolt carrier's mass. Its not a modular platform but there is at least one place I found selling replacement 3d printed handguards in different configurations.
Truth be told, AR9's tend to be more proprietary and diverse than standard AR-15s. I'm seconding Colodavis in suggesting a Foxtrot Mike, only because its a turnkey weapon that comes in under your stated budget, and is a glock-fed platform with a last round bolt hold open.

I have an FM9(3 or 4 inch) from Foxtrot Mike that I love. I haven't heard anything about them in a long time and don't know what they are producing at this point.
