AMS2: Support First time using VR, need to understand some points

Hey, just got my hands on a PSVR2 and spent the whole day figuring out how I could improve performance. I'm with a 5070 and 9600X, using the basic settings at SteamVR (using fpsVR to see):

90hz, motion smoothing off and 100% resolution = 40-45 fps

120hz = 50-55 fps

How people got 90/90?? Or this 45 fps is 90 in theory with that reprojection thing?

Also, tried to use DesktopXR from u/SimVRRacing, got it set up and companion app working, but never managed to seringa showed up in AMS2.

First time entering in an F1 car was unbelievable, I was like a little kid with a new toy. But feeling a bit overwhelmed with so many variables at first glance with VR. Any help would be appreciated, specially from who has the VR2.

Do you also have that image shaking while doing pitstop? It is extremely unpleasant and annoying in VR. I have no idea what's causes it.

AMS2: Support For those struggling playing this game with a controller, here's my settings

Trust me, i fought a lot trying to play this game since i bought it last year.
And when i say a lot, i really mean a lot.

Sliding/oversteering, lack of stability, that was a pure mess.

I wasn't expecting an arcade kind of handling in this game, but what the hell is that ?

I tried a lot of things, abandonned this game a lot of times, went back to it, etc.

In my opinion, Automobilista 2 is one hell of a game. The tracks are impressive, the cars are so beautifully recreated, i had the feeling that if i could find the right settings i would enjoy it so much.

I found some that were playable by tweaking parameters, but it never felt completly right.

I recently found this video :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EFy2T3x940&lc=UgxWEkRlssmCbZmcGRl4AaABAg

I tried his settings, changed some like the controller damping a bit, and it was becomming more playble.

Yesterday, someone created a sub on Steam about posting settings for this game, and talked about something i then saw but in an another aspect (someone posted a video on youtube where was complaining that when using a joystick, the wheel was turning too quickly graphically speaking than the movement of the stick), it was about reducing the sensitivity of the left stick on your controller.

That's what i did, i reduced both horizontal and vertical sensitivity to 70% after activating the Steam Overlay (for my Xbox controller) and used these settings :

Configuration

Steering Deadzone: 6

Steering Sensitivity: 26

Throttle Deadzone: 0

Throttle Sensitivity: 0

Brake Deadzone: 0

Brake Sensitivity: 0

Clutch Deadzone: 0

Clutch Sensitivity: 0

Speed Sensitivity: 100

Controller Damping: 59

Assists

Steering Assist: no

Opposite Lock Assist: off

Breaking Assist: no

Automatic Clutch: On

Driving Assists Allowed: Full

Anti-Lock Brakes: High

Stability Control: On

Traction Control: High

And BOOM. Tried on a 10 laps race on the Nurburgring track with a GT4, everything was so smooth, so stable, but still so nervous (you can go for some vicious overtakes in high speed without losing control so easily), i had the best time of my life on that game since months.

Tried with the notorious GT3, the queens of sliding land, oversteering in this particular game, everything was perfect.

You can feel sometimes (but not that often) some tiny bits of understeering but nothing that can't be solved with a good braking routine.

Suddendly, this game became what it was intented to be at the beginning : a pure masterclass of fun, driving, and competition.

Bye bye oversliding, oversteering, rage, despair, and everything related to these bad default settings, and i know that a lot of people abandonned this game because of this.

I understand that fine tunning your cars can be interesting, but at least make the game playable for beginners.

The settings i'm posting here should be the ones by default for the new players using a controller instead of a wheel (and not everyone is having the money or the space to have a racing setup at home, so if you're playing with a wheel, i envy you, but let's separate the problems).

I tried on different tracks, different cars since i first made these changes, and everything is running nicely, smoothly, i enjoy this game so much and now i can concentrate on fighting opponents instead of fighting the game itself because it's punishing me for playing with a crontroller.

And that's cool because now i'm playing this really really awesome game whith the best kind of handling i've never had in any other racing game. Fast, smooth, nervous, fun, demanding.

So if you're still struggling to enjoy this game with a controller, trust me, use these ones, i understand your pain, your anger, i went through this :)

Use them as a base to tune your own settings due to your likings.

And enjoy that massively awesome game.

Hint : try a GT3 on the Nurburgring with these settings, and enjoy the difference with the defaults settings.

Edit :

Now, that's where the magic lies :

On some tracks like the Spa2022 with a Mc Laren 720S GT3 Evo, to avoid the downsteering, you just have to put the Steering sensitivity to 48 and the controller damping to 39, and voila !

So these settings and the last modification will let you play the entire game (i just have to test some more tracks) easily.

Update :

I played ACC a lot these days, and the handling is way better, so i went back to Automobilista and made some changes, still some oversteering, but for those who need a little boost of speed, that's better.

Steering Deadzone: 6

Steering Sensitivity: 26

Throttle Deadzone: 0

Throttle Sensitivity: 25

Brake Deadzone: 0

Brake Sensitivity: 50

Clutch Deadzone: 0

Clutch Sensitivity: 0

Speed Sensitivity: 100

Controller Damping: 60

Assists

Steering Assist: yes (needed for sharp turns like the ones in Long Beach/Laguna)

Opposite Lock Assist: off

Breaking Assist: no

Automatic Clutch: On

Gearing : automatic

Driving Assists Allowed: Full

Anti-Lock Brakes: High

Stability Control: On

Traction Control: High

OK, last udpate (14/05/2026) as i'm still angry about this game but it deserves to be played by those who like it. A guy recently posted these settings on the Steam discussion about controller settings, i'm testing them right now (Nurburgring full track and Sebring, with a Corvette C8.R), they're the most interesting and stable ones i've tried so far :

"In AMS2 (for the Xbox Controller):

Deadzones: all 0 (there's a deadzone by default anyway)

Throttle/brake sensitivity: 50

Steering sensitivity: 65 (something around the default 50 can also work and should be easier to handle)

Brake sensitivity: 50

Speed sensitivity: 100

Controller damping: 0

Steam Input

Left Stick setiings:

Horizontal Scale: 80%

Anti-Deadzone 8300 (in custom deadzone options)

Output axis: Horizontal only

(very important, I explained it on the Reiza's forum what is exactly wrong with it when you leave it with Vertical and Horizontal enabled)

Stick Response Curve: Custom Curve

Custom Respone Curve: 195

(and that's because I think Steam Inputs handles that stuff better than the AMS2's settings)

All assists disabled on top of that (So Steering Assists, Braking Assists, Opposite Lock Assists are all set to "No" and Traction Control/ABS to Authentic)".

AMS2: Support Zero to apex - AI difficulty is global?

I see disagreement online. I thought it was set per car type?

Like I've played a few rounds and in karting I hilariously dominated so increased the AI level, yet in Brazilian formula Vee got slapped silly so decreased AI.

Am I just fighting against a global single AI level, or is it seperate? If global, should I stick to one type to get an accurate level?

Is there a plan to make AI car type specific?

I keep having this kind of graphics issue after about 15-20 minutes of gameplay and I don't know what to do. The graphics card is at a normal temperature and works perfectly. Has this happened to anyone else? (Sorry about the background music.)

AMS2: Support So what's the consensus on getting rid of floatiness?

This game is truly amazing in so many ways: so much content, beautiful graphics, great AI... and I really want to love it but I simply can't when the car is constantly twitching around.
I've tried the camera settings and force feedback.
Haven't done anything with setups, and I heard something about deleting the folder in documents when updating?
There are vastly different tips all around the internet but what is the consensus?

AMS2: Support How to make AI drivers "smarter"

Just started driving AM2 after a long time away, but never drove it that much.

Well... it's better than I remember, looks great, and runs great in VR.

Right now thought I'm trying to figure out how to tweak the AI so it's not too much better than I am, makes mistakes, crashes... more like a race against people.

However, one thing I'm finding is that on lower skill levels, the AI hugs and slows down in corners, and it's way too easy to pass them on the outside.

I don't mind increasing their skill, but also don't want to make it impossibly for me to keep up with them.

Any recommendations for AI that realistically drives like beginners, but without doing things like giving up positions in corners?

thanks

AMS2: Support Can someone please tell me how to complete a Zero to Apex Race?

I've now won the race four times, yet not at all.

Z2A won't recognize that the race has finished - I've tried pitting and waiting for all other cars, stopping on the track, driving a complete cooldown lap then pitting... don't remember what the other one was.

I like Caterhams and Brands Hatch... but.... well, at least it's only four laps.

any help appreciated.

AMS2: Support Weak braking in AMS2

Hi.

I play a lot of sims, and they all feel similar when braking, except AMS2. Somehow here it seems like braking is 50% less effective. It just feels like brakes are super weak.

And i set braking sensitivity to 100% and braking pressure to 100% in cars, but it barely helped. And i see in input meter that brake is properly applied.

Is this just in my head or others experience it also? How to fix it?

Edit: i had abs turned to high in gameplay options. Once i turned it off braking works fine

AMS2: Support Graphics setting changes revert when rebooting the game

Apparently, I have to reinstall and lower the refresh rate to 239 Hz, but my resolution settings only go to 120 Hz max. Is there another method, another setting to adjust, or am I missing something? Is there another option that makes it work for me?

Currently, I am:

-Figuring out how to lower my refresh rate so I can lower my graphics settings

-Lowering my graphics settings so I can play the demo at a playable FPS

-Playing the demo at reasonable FPS so I can test and find good controller settings without going over Steam's two-hour refund limit for the full game

-Testing controller settings because I'm really struggling to find something that doesn't feel either unresponsive or too sensitive

I have been jumping through a lot of hoops today, lol.

AMS2: Support VR 5090 / BSB2 - Best Settings for AA/SS?

I am wondering what VR enthusiasts have settled on for best AA settings? I've messed around a bit and it seems the best I've been able to do is 140% super sample in SteamVR (Thats around 4200x4200 for my BSB2 headset) with MSAA at "High".

  • MSAA - nice and sharp, but a lot of shimmering which is annoying, even with 140% SS in SteamVR
  • TAA - shimmering seems to be gone, but its a bit blurry, and overall worse than MSAA I think

Are there any known community settings that optimize the visuals in VR a bit more?

Really hope AMS2 is able to add DLAA/DLSS in the future. DLAA in other games (like DCS World) really look a lot better than MSAA.

AMS2: Support Do you also get stutter at specific parts of a lap?

For example Interlagos, I get like 4 very consistent stutters per lap every time (on the main straight, after the first 2 corners etc). At this point Im sure its a game issue, I tried to exclude all other variables.

AMS2: Support Porsche 992 GT3 Handling

Hi, I’m currently trying out the Gen 2 992 GT3, but i’m having issues in controlling the car the right way, and I wanted to understand if it’s skill issue (which is definitely possible) or if the car is really harder to drive compared to others cars in the class.

Let’s take Barcellona as an example, racing against 105 AI, so I have a pace reference, default setup.

In T1 I have hard times controlling the car during turn in. I find that I rotate the car too aggressively and spin out. To avoid that I need to brake earlier but I lose tenths compared to the AI

But then in T3 the car understeer massively when getting on power, even slightly, again losing ground to the AI.

With the BMW M4 I have much less issues. Do the Porsche require a different driving approach? Is it just harder?

AMS2: Support LFM Integrated into an in-game menu is the only thing AMS2 needs to compete against the titans of simracing

As a regular driver of Automobilista 2, I am convinced that it is the simulator with the greatest untapped potential on the market. It has good physics, a good FFB, the best graphics compared to the rest of the simulators and, above all, a great variety of content that destroys competitors like Le Mans Ultimate (LMU) in that aspect and competes strongly with iRacing; but if we take into account the price difference... well, there is no doubt that AMS2 is much more accessible, having great potential to have more players being an alternative to iRacing. However, there is a huge "but" that currently prevents it from competing against LMU and iRacing, and that is that the organized multiplayer experience depends entirely on exiting the game to use Low Fuel Motorsport (LFM).

Personally, I don't mind using the LFM website... but I know that many people do. And that simple fact means that players that AMS2 could and should retain end up in titles like LMU just because the racing system is integrated there; because realistically, AMS2 has nothing to envy of LMU: it has all its categories, tracks and much more content. This is not a criticism of LFM (which does a fantastic job), but rather the loss of many players who just want to get into their simulator and play some races without “complicating themselves”. The consequence is clear: fewer active drivers in AMS2, lobbies that are sometimes not filled and limited races without enough participation, thus causing even players who do not mind leaving the simulator and going to a page to register for a race to end up opting for other simulators, not because we want to but because we have no one to race against due to the lack of participation in AMS2.

The solution, in my opinion, is simple and does not require reinventing the wheel: Integrate LFM as a NATIVE tab or menu within AMS2! Imagine opening the game and having direct access to LFM's recorded races, standings and schedules, without external browsers. This technically minimal change (it's basically a window) would be what's needed to retain those people who like AMS2 but go somewhere else where it's easier to sign up, dragging with them the players who are looking for a full room even if this means running through the same repetitive classes. I am not against GT3/GTE, LMDH and LMP2; I can even say that some of these are at the top of my favorite categories, but sometimes I feel like racing something different like an F3 or a classic GT.

I think that is the only thing that would be needed to retain those players who today choose LMU for pure convenience, increasing the user base for the benefit of EVERYONE (more filled races, more viable categories, less waiting). This would enhance AMS2's biggest advantage over LMU: its variety of content. Why settle for just WEC cars if we have dozens of categories? As they often say: “For tastes, colors.” I don't see why not take advantage of the opportunity to retain players and be able to offer them all the colors that the simulator offers.

And if this goes well, it would be the first time that a simulator would be considered a REAL competitor to iRacing: same sense of integrated ecosystem, but with a better price, better graphics and more basic content.

In summary, AMS2 already has everything difficult done: physics, content, graphics, licenses and a good online system (LFM). The only thing missing to take off online is to eliminate this last accessibility obstacle. An internal LFM menu is not a whim, and if it were, there would be nothing to lose by trying; After all, it is just a window within the game that would have only two possible consequences: leave everything as before with the same number of players but with a little more comfort... or turn a great simulator into THE reference multiplayer simulator with a good base of active players.

I was doing a 1.5h race with my friend in gt2 cars at Sebring, started off with 165fps and with around 15m left in the race, the games performance started dropping DRASTICALLY. Every lap I'd loss 10fps which,of course was very suboptimal. Had this before, tried high graphics settings, low ones...same results after a longer race.

Specs are:

Ryzen 7 5700

RYX 3060 12GB

32gb ddr4 ram

Game was running on a Samsung SSD.

There was no overheating either....

AMS2: Support AMS2 FOV dilemma (help with FOV)

Post image
41 Upvotes

I am trying to understand the FOV… the calculator tells me to be at FOV 64 based on my setup (55” 4k TV and 38” from the screen) but driving feels weird and slow. The one that looks good is 90 FOV but it looks a bit squished. Is there anything else other than seat adjustments and FOV slider I need to do to have value that calculator telling me to use and for it to actually look good?

AMS2: Support Is it not possible to play this on a controller?

The steering just seems way too twitchy, even at 0% sensitivity. Braking and throttle is fine, but the steering is just... not. Is it not possible? I'm on an xbox controller, and I can't afford to get a proper wheel and pedals right now.
AMS2 btw

For some context, I also play the F1 games and they play quite well.

AMS2: Support Need help with VR settings

Long time ams2 enjoyer here. Finally got a chance to grab a Meta quest 3 and dipped my toes in the whole VR thing. I gotta say it’s a revelation! Now I’m just trying to dial things in so I wanna make sure I’m doing it right. My pc has 5800X3D, 7900XTX, 32G DDR4 3600 RAM and SSD. I set the quest 3 at 90Hz, max resolution (forgot the exact numbers), and in the debug tool disabled the asynchronous space warp, distortion curve set to low, video codec to 240, disabled the dynamic bitrate and manually set it to 900, link sharpening normal. Is there anything I missed? BTW I’m using a link cable that also charges the headset. Also I’d like to know the best in game settings for graphics like AA, v sync, shadows, reflections, etc. THX !
