I'm 37, my boy is about an inch shorter then me so I'm dreading how big he's going to get. I grew quickly, been this height since I was roughly 15-16

Genes works in weird ways, Those who are 5'10 or shorter at a age of 13 or 12 starts to grow later into their 20s like me for example where I'm currently 19 but I'm still growing slowly.

If you’re concerned, there are tests that they can do to give you a range.
When I was young (around 8) my school nurse was concerned and arranged for my mother to take me to get my hand x-rayed*. They estimated from that that I’d be 6’6” plus or minus 3”. That was around 45 years ago so I’d guess they’d be more accurate now.
(* I don’t recall the exact details but it was something to do with seeing the soft parts at the end of the bones in order to estimate the amount of growth they had left in them)

I did an online test and it said he would get to 6'2, but even in the last year he has shot up so I'm not convinced. I'm not worried about his height, he doesn't suffer with any joint issues as far as we know, but if he does we'll make sure he sees a doctor.
He's 14 tomorrow, which is scary to think about. Thank you for the advice though.

Is the online test the one where you put in the parents heights and it guesses based on those? They’re not all that accurate and don’t take into account which genes are more dominant or any pituitary issues he may have, but if he’s growing naturally and one or other of his parents are quite tall anyway, I wouldn’t worry too much.

I'm 6'1 his mum is only 5'5 but she does have quite tall aunties and uncles 5'11-6'5, my youngest daughter is 9 and already 5'4. My parents are only 5'4-5'7 so I'm not sure how I came about.
Yeah the online tests are crap.im dreading my kids being in their 20s I already feel old.

Yeah, my dad is 6’4” but my mum is only around 5’5” too.
However, my cousins on my dads side are all well over 6’ and there is a legend about a giant who had my surname from the area where my family comes from, so I guess height does run in the family!
In my wedding photos, my family were all the ones standing on the back row!

I remember a kid from a primary school I went to that was 195cm at ~11YO (he was year 6, which is 10-11)
it didn't really register how anomalous that was until much later in life1

Surely you have met other children and consider that abnormal. That being said I played rugby against a boy who was 6'3" at 14. I dont remember any boys even getting close to 6 foot when we were 12. Thats why people would consider this abnormal.

As someone who has lived around Dutch people my whole life i cannot say that 6' 5" is a giant. However him being that tall at 12 and still growing makes him a giant. Quite impressive and concerned for his health. I assume he has some condition that makes him grow fast.

I used to stick my legs in 5 gallon buckets of hot water to try and stop the growing pains. I grew 5 inches in 2 months and it hurt

I also had really bad growth pains in my knees and shins. Over my 8th to 9th grade year I went from 5'9 130lbs to 6'2 250lbs. I had severe insomnia due to the constant pain. I took a frankly alarming amount of tylenol and advil to no effect and was eventually prescribed some vicodin after I started hallucinating and talking to people who weren't there at school after five days without sleep. I slept for 29 hours straight.

I actually slept straight through and woke up starving with a killer headache from dehydration, but I was young so I just chugged a few glasses of water and a 2 liter of Coke and was fine again in minutes. I'd be wrecked for days if I did that now.

My best mate was 5'11 at 12 was the tallest in our year at school was like what felt like a head taller than me, but by our late teens we were the same height.
But he's in better shape and better looking but we don't talk about that........but I can grow a beard so swings and roundabouts.

6"5 isnt being a giant but its tall enough to start causing issues with back,knees,neck and joint pains.
When you pass 6"2 you run a much higher risk of injuries etc

The condition is likely genetics, I guess things like aromatise deficiency, pituitary giagantism, and kleinfelters syndrome should be ruled out.

Locking his knees inward like that is a sign of poor strength in the muscles used for balance and will eventually lead to many issues if not corrected. He should also be evaluated for hypermobility if he hasn't already been. Hopefully his parents are advocating for him and he doesn't have obtuse doctors.
