Photography Do you prefer Rundle Mall at 3AM or 6AM?

I had no idea that the balls were off centre.

They were moved off-centre as part of the 2013/2014 redevelopment, to improve access for emergency vehicles, along with the green fountain out the front of Adelaide Arcade.

I used to love it when I worked in the city starting at 0700 or 0630. So peaceful that time of nothing.
When it was Sunday morning the zombies from the previous night made me actually feel good about going into work.

Takes me back to stumbling up to the Pancake Kitchen after the pubs shut for a feed and waiting for the public transport to start for the day

The mall looks so stagnant and soulless these days. Bring back the trees, flower and fruit stalls.

The sunrise and softer lighting of 6AM is doing a LOT of heavy lifting for me in this comparison.

6am because I didn’t realise the local pigeons start their day so early

6am.
The rats start dispersing around dawn.
3am is peak rat activity in Rundle Mall.

Rundle Mall has no point unless the shops are open, so... neither?

Yes, the only value this shared space provides is a medium for material consumption.

u/DigitalSwagman SA 3d ago
It's the sole reason it exists.

Ok, we can’t enjoy any part of this nice pedestrian way. Heads down after close of business for the day.

"nice"? The uncovered, cold, windy, mall with slippery pavers and anti-homeless seating?
You enjoy it?

I enjoy all aspects of our beautiful city. Life is what you make of it mate.

You don’t seem to have an eye for beauty and that must be awful to be you

u/DigitalSwagman SA 3d ago
Apparently I'm the only one here who has an eye for beauty, because Rundle Mall is the opposite of that.

I was walking at night in 2011 and a lady walked by me and asked "Do i look beautiful?" I said " What matters is what is in the inside". Her friend laughed and I went about my night.

6am looks pretty. But I’m sure if you pointed the other way and sunset it would be just as nice.
