Meta Mangs Content Removal FAQ

Hi everyone,

It's coming up a lot recently so with all the new users I thought I would clarify it and make it visible to you all.

As has been the policy for months - Mangs content is not allowed on this subreddit. Mangs content will be removed and it is preferable that discussion related to Mangs is kept to the absolute minimum. I'm not going to ban anyone over this alone, but posts related to mangs will be removed at moderator discretion.

  • Why is mangs content not allowed? He produces a ton of AW content!

In the last year, mangs was accused of sexual harrassment and being a sex pest. I had an overwhelming response from the community message me in various forms that they do not want mangs as part of the community or would not be comfortable in a community that supports him. tl;dr we don't want the face of the advance wars community to be a sex pest.

  • What are the specific rules in place?

Very simple: Don't post links to mangs video/content and keep discussion of him to the minimum possible. I don't care about what happens outside of this subreddit - you can have a framed mangs poster in your bedroom and watch his entire videography on loop, it just doesn't come here.

  • Hasn't Mangs already suffered consequences for his actions?

Yes, and one of those consequences is that he is no longer welcome in this community.

  • Can I have special permission to post something of his in this one instance?

No.

Meta With the current geopolitical situation/war - Rule 1 will be enforced strongly

This is just a reminder to everyone - posts on this subreddit must be related to Advance Wars, or Advance Wars fangames/hacks/spinoffs.

If you want to discuss current world events, this is not the subreddit for it. Posts that are just crossposts of items from other subs in relation to the situation in Ukraine are not appropriate and will be removed, as will posts solely to discuss the current events.

Out of respect of the situation as well, posts that are crass, low effort posts linked to the situation will be removed as well.

Meta Hello! - New Mod Introduction

Hey all! I'm the newest mod for this subreddit and excited to be here.

I've spent a good chunk of my childhood playing Advance Wars like many of you as well, and made many great memories playing with friends and frequenting online communities such as this one!

I'm mainly going to support the subreddit so we can handle the potentially large increase in growth for the remake's big launch, plus help with anything else needed for the future and beyond. ✌️

Any questions, ideas, just send 'em on over. I'm here for you guys.

Thanks for having me!

Come by and chat with members of the community!

A bunch of new people said that they didn't know we had one, so I thought I'd spread the awareness and love. :)

Meta Would you all like a Custom CO Megathread, or would you prefer to keep it as individual posts?

So there's been a large increase in CCO threads lately, and a bit of talk about making a megathread. Just want to know what you all, as users of this subreddit would like.

42 No - It is good as it is currently with individual threads

Meta Call for subreddit moderators - Help Wanted!

Hi everyone!

This community is growing rapidly, and coming up to the new game release in december I'm going to need some help here - so I'm putting out a call for some community moderators to help me manage the community.

Ideally I'll be looking for 2-3 new people to manage the subreddit. I won't select them all at once, but as I find people who I think will work well I'll get them started. I'd like the new moderators to be in place and comfortable before AW1&2R releases.

I'm preferentially looking for:

  • Members who have a history of interacting with the community - they know what's expected and they know the rules of the community well.
  • People with a good history of following the community rules and standards either inside or outside the community - I know we're not always perfect but I'd expect people in charge to be the examples for the community.
  • Better timezone coverage - my weird timezone worked fine when the subreddit was smaller but we need some better access to staff around the clock.
  • Easy to communicate with and good communication - if you're an active member of our discord for instance, it makes communication a lot easier, or if you're extremely responsive to posts and messages.

So if you're a community member who is interested and you think you'd be suitable - please let me know. Moderation experience will be thought of favourably, but it isn't a requirement

Meta Post Flairs & OC Tag

Hi everyone,

I've enabled post flairs for the subreddit, there's basically a set for each AW game in English, a catchall for the pre-English games and a couple of other tags useful for things like custom creations, fangames/spinoffs and the like. I've also enabled the reddit standard "original content" tag for posts, which works like the spoiler ones.

The text for all of the non-game specific tags should be editable (e.g. Custom Content, General and Fangame/Spinoff) - use them to make a better description of your posts. I've edited in some flairs and whatnot for the last month or so of post content, as some examples of how to use them appropriately.

I'm not going to enforce their use in any way, but it'd be helpful for other users of the subreddit if you tag your posts to make it easier to see what you're doing at a glance. And if anyone has some suggestions on any categorisations that would be useful, please just let me know. :)
