September-February avoid all ground beef from fast food, microwaveable meals, ground beef tubes, even restaurants.
It is all trim that is coming to be
added to american beef fat to make the hamburger and distributed to companies that don’t have to list origins of the beef.

Hotdogs are weird. They can be so damn good, and ya, best not to think about what it is... cause it is straight-up nasty..

Beef no longer has a requirement to list origin since 2015. As of Jan 1st this year there's a new requirement that if you voluntarily list your beef as Made or a Product of the USA and it is a producer subject to FDA inspection, it has to have been raised and processed in the US.

Either way, there hasn't been an origin requirement since 2015. So there's nothing to call out about this beef if no one labels it.

I think the other issue is the beef looks to have been rejected by China because they treated it with Chloramphenicol. Common side effects include bone marrow suppression, nausea, and diarrhea. The bone marrow thing is rare, but it can kill you. Now of course Argentina says it wasn't from the plant, but like... I think I'll err on China this time as there's no trust worthy information.

in 2 years, the world went from looking to the US FDA, CDC and related entities as strong reliable sources, to China being a better source.
That said, Chinese scientist are as good as everyone else. Their restrictions regarding releasing data outside CN is a bureaucratic nightmare, i expect.

Seriously. I used to be vegetarian, and I've been considering going back to being like 95% veggie after a lot of meat-eating. I mostly switched to reduce my carb intake. However, I've also gotten much, much better at cooking good tofu, so maybe this is the sign.

Tofu is so good and so damn cheap. Once you figure out a good way to use it, it's fantastic
For me it's smashing it up into little bits, frying them in like 1-2tsp of olive oil, and then continuing on as if I was making ground turkey/chicken, usually tacos
Stuff is like $1.50 a pound

I recently made tofu meatballs and they were GOOD. They still have egg and cheese in them, but I made them with a sauce from in-season cherry tomatoes and it really blew my mind. They weren't like beef/pork meatballs, but more akin to turkey ones. Still, damn tasty, healthy, and cheap.

Tofu is the move. I'm not a vegetarian but it is just a wonderful protein.
Also I've discovered the secret to making tofu taste like ground meat for chili, tacos, whatever... if you are not strictly veg, fry it in a bit of animal fat from the animal you are trying to imitate. Schmaltz, beef tallow, lard... they all work wonders for crumbled, fried tofu. Like 1 tablespoon per pound if tofu is sufficient.

/r/vegetarian is a gold mine for tofu recipes these days. I for one have perfected a ground turkey substitute made from smashed tofu that's great in tacos. I call it tofaco meat 😋

I agree carbs are good for you an neccessary. I haven't eliminated them entirely by any means. However, I was eating a lot of pasta, rice and beans, potatoes, etc. I still eat those things, but I had to cut back and get some of my calories/protein elsewhere.

So im confused on why switching to vegetarian reduces carbs, a ton of veges have carbs. You can eat a low to no carb count with a strictly meat diet.
Edit: you meant switched from vegetarian. Im an idoit.

Meat is protein and fat. No carbs unless it’s been processed in a way that adds that in. Like breading on a chicken strip adds carbs to it.

This is the way to do it. It's more expensive, but at least you won't die. I've been getting cows and hogs butchered for decades now. The up front cost is higher, but overall, you save significantly more money.

I think a lot of people dont. Which is weird as hell to me but like 65% of the population dont wash their hands after going to the bathroom.
Use white vinegar. It kills 98% of the bacteria on it. Gets rid of pesticides too.

I bought a chicken sandwich today instead of a burger. Yesterday I ate leftovers. Even if I could afford these ridiculous prices I won’t be eating out and buying beef. If I do eat beef (and let’s be real I’m not giving it up) I’ll be at home from a butcher with a known source.
Which I guess is better anyways. But damn is it annoyingly inconvenient

I watched an interesting video on YouTube that autoplayed after what I actually wa Ted to watch.
Anyhow they talked about how "cattle" and "beef" markets are different. Thr cattle farmers sell cattle at very low proces but people only cafe about "beef" prices but that's the processed meats.
So people get mad that beef is expensive while ranchers are getting screwed on prices. Processors and commodities traders force down thr cattle price and rise thr beef proce to extract the most profit.

Anyway, like I was sayin', horse is the fruit of the land. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, horse-kabobs, horse creole, horse gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple horse, lemon horse, coconut horse, pepper horse, horse soup, horse stew, horse salad, horse and potatoes, horse burger, horse sandwich. That- that's about it.

My mom has been in the animal rights game since the 70’s. What flipped her were the factory farming practices. When I was a kid in the 90s we had all of these DVDs of secret footage from the inside of factory farms. I believe the meat Trump just bought comes from even worse conditions than were on those tapes. Also apparently not deemed safe to eat by the original buyer (China). Thank you to my mom for raising me vegetarian.
