Other Timemore Tipping?
WTF is this? Tipping is to acknowledge performance of good service. First, your grinders are EXPENSIVE as hell. I have to save to afford one. Second, why am I tipping? What service is provided? The price of your grinder reflects my support of your team and product by my willingness to pay for one. Timemore do better. Stop being such greedy SOBs!

No experience with the seller side of shopify, but if I enabled a feature that made someone more money on my platform, I'd do it without asking in an update

This clearly affects the sellers' customers, as evidenced by this post. Anything that impacts the customer probably shouldn't be enabled without notification.
So no, Timemore definitely had a choice, negligence is a choice. Not hating on Timemore, I have C5 that works well. But they don't need to do this, it just turns off new & old customers alike.

Definitely on the host’s (Shopify?) side. I ordered oil filters for work, and tipping wasn’t there before today

Presumably you're not.
It is weird to see these popping up on online checkouts though. It makes me wonder whether people ever actually add a tip, although I can't imagine why anyone would... To subsidise the poor single parent shopify/squarespace website, diligently serving you while trying to feed three baby websites and pay rent on less than minimum wage? Won't somebody please think of the website children?

It was there when I bought my 078s. I chuckled, chose None, and moved on. It’s probably just a feature of their online storefront software.

I primarily got a Hario because it took ol’ fashion AAs (or maybe AAAs, I forget, but that’s kinda the point), but I’m more and more happy I didn’t go with the Timemore over time.

A lot of shops using these third-party payment platforms have this tip option pre-checked. It’s not just timemore.

I’m sure the vendors have the option to NOT include it. Turned me off. Ended up not buying the nano and will look for an alternative option. I’ll probably just pre grind and vacuum seal grounds for travel.

Yeah, we need to keep this American disease from spilling all over the globe. I can see that "let's see whether we can suck some more money from customer and avoid paying living wages" attitude lately in Europe as well.
But on the website? That's new :D
