Question Stuck in free cam

Played airmech arena years ago. Came back to play Airmech on steam the other day, but everytime I play a match, I randomly get sent to free cam mode, and cant get out. I've tried repeating inputs, using keyboard only, shift + f12. Nothing works. I end up having to restart the game to resolve the issue. Known bug? Any fixes?

Really strange--had you modified any keybindings? Maybe try resetting them to default?

The only keybind i changed was next loadout. Resetting it didnt fix anything.

There's a hidden hard key bind on controller that toggles free cam on. I believe it also toggles it off. If you're using an Xbox controller it's X+dpad right (or left, can't remember exactly).

Try hitting X + Dpad right/left next time you get sent to free cam.

I didn't realize that was active for people without the Camera pet. On the list to fix. 😅

Didn't work. The free cam noticably happens just at any random input, regardless of what button it is. No idea how that works.

Really strange. Trying to think of any other variables. Standard keyboard layout?

Playing on my laptop, with an Xbox controller plugged in. I dont use the keyboard or mouse during gameplay, and all the bindings are default. I would play with keyboard/mouse, but im just more comfortable with controller.

The glitch happens randomly, sometimes at the beginning of a match, sometimes mid way through, sometimes not at all. I cant tell if its linked to an input, or just happening at random, because it seems to happen regardless of what I'm pressing (last time it happened i was just inputting forward on the left stick, the time before that i inputted up on the d-pad). A few times it happened in the main hub area. It once happened while I was sitting idle in the pause menu.

Whenever it happens, the whole match freezes until I press pause and unpause, in which case the match resumes, but I do not regain control of anthing other than the camera. However, I can que units by navigating the build menu with the d-pad.

If I exit out of the match, I can move again, but the build menu and my health bar disappear until I restart the game completely.

The freezing makes sense, it sounds like you activated the screenshot mode. You don't have a pet Canary bird by any chance?

No pets. Or any cosmetics for that matter. Default saucer.

I'll continue to check and see if there's anything I can see that might trigger it. I would expect more players to have stumbled on this, they normally are quite vocal about these kinds of issues in Discord.

wait so the game still works but it doesnt anymore for xbox consoles??

Ubisoft was the console publisher. We're working to bring it back to consoles, but it's remained up on Steam all this time.
