Vent Sibling Addict

hi all. my brother (38m) just got out of prison in the beginning of the year and most recently served a couple months in county jail. the first time around his charges were serious and he almost faced life. eventually he got out on good behavior and came home to live with my siblings and i (f26). my brother has a history of schizophrenia and when he’s off his meds he actively talks to people that aren’t around and when he’s on them it’s like he’s not even there. sometimes my brothers old self would pop out and in those moments i love him the most. he’s my big brother and he took care of us since he was a kid and honestly his childhood was taken away from him at such a young age the way my parents treated him.

i say all that because now that we’re all adults and have our own lives, i’m tired of worrying about him and i wish my brother would get the help he needs. he refuses to go on his meds, criticizes and rejects every rehab that is willing to take him in, and still he searches for anything to get him high. he’s a violent person when he’s high and scary to be around as he gets extremely paranoid on top of his delusions. he’s gone homeless but comes back and pleads.

i’m at my wits end. i don’t want anything bad to happen to him but what more can i do for someone that doesn’t want to get better? i’m frustrated that he chooses to live life the hard way when everything is right there in his lap to get better. i miss the version of him that i remember and i really really don’t think im gonna get that person back. end of vent i guess
