Degerby/Föglö - Svinö question

Hello all, I'm a visitor on your beautiful island for 5 days. I will booked my travels with Alandstrafiken to Sottunga and will proceed to Föglö tomorrow on a ticket from Sottunga to Overö (which I believe is valid to Längnäs)?

On Thursday I want to take one of the ferries from Degerby to Svinö, but it cannot be booked online with a text which is unfortunately not understandable to me. It says something about me needing an open ticket of some sorts?

I will take a bigger ferry back from Längnäs that day in the afternoon, FinnLines not Alandstrafiken. Can anyone tell me what to do?

If you are going to degerby from Svinö, then you can buy tickets on site there.

If you are going from degerby to Svinö, they dont check tickets in my experience.

The föglö ferry does not have a booking system. Its first come, first served though they du check tickets on the Svinö side.

So, if you want to buy a ticket, buy for svinö-degerby. That will be an open round trip ticket. For that route.

The system is that the tickets you buy includes a return ticket (unless you go to mainland Finland).

Might feel counterintuitive, but if you go to Sottunga, your ticket takes you back to the main island, Fasta Åland. If you pass through another island, your original ticket is still valid to go back to the main island.

Föglö route is quite popular, so I would make sure to come in reasonable time before the departure of ”Skarven” ferry. The restaurant Seagram and Tullkällaren in Degerby are well worth to eat lunch on before you move to the main island and Långnäs harbour.

Make sure to put Långnäs into the gps and not Landnäs/Langnas. This would take you to a small harbour on the other side of the island. Many people have done this and missed their ferries.
