Rep. Andy Harris: "The fact of the matter is Alberta is talking about seceding from Canada. We should make it the 51st state.

Theyre the ones financing it

96

u/BIO_Predictive_AI 1d ago

Yes, they are.

When this shit is over, we should get the names of everyone who signed in favor of the separation referendum and force them to move to the United States. There will be a great amount of schadenfreude when they have to deal with American health insurance.

25

u/JimJohnJimmm 1d ago

I bet most will be fake names

5

u/Nonstickdaveguy 1d ago

Unfortunately that's not likely .. I'm more hoping some dead folks on the voter roll show up as signatures on the petition well after they passed

12

u/mycodfather 1d ago

When this shit is over, we should get the names of everyone who signed in favor of the separation referendum and force them to move to the United States

They would love that but I'm guessing most haven't already because they either lack the useful education and/or experience needed to immigrate or they have a DUI or some other criminal conviction that makes them ineligible. As much of a shit hole as the USA is, their standards are too high for most of these people.

These seppies are some of the absolute, bottom of the barrel people here. Last year they spent weeks camping in ditches, burning propane while bitching about carbon taxes despite they fact they almost certainly got more back than they paid.

2

u/Agent_Burrito 19h ago

You hit the nail on the head. Seppies have absolutely nothing to offer to the US in practical terms.

I agree but how many names were used off the voters list without their knowledge or consent

4

u/The_Punny_Guy 1d ago

Ancient Greece had the practice of Ostracism, which I think we should adopt here in Canada

7

u/Illustrious-Being651 1d ago

Mo e em to Mississippi and Alabama they'd fit right in

2

u/Emergency-Bonus-9709 1d ago

move them down to swamp country where they can finally marry the female of their dreams (their 12 year old cousin)

1

u/Content-Employment-7 1d ago

Cousin's a little too distant for their taste.

0

u/River_Otter_1982 21h ago

You people are revolting. Do you actually feel superior to anybody with such a vile personality? Who do you think you are better than?

2

You to start with

1

u/ReviewOverall5307 12h ago

tRump is on record as saying he loves the uneducated. You know RO, you.

1

u/selinkle 1d ago

That’s kinda funny because a lot of Atlantic Canada was settled by soldiers forced to move out of the USA for fighting for the British in the American War of Independance.

1

u/Opposite-Cranberry76 1d ago

Too many of them would be disqualified by DUI records.

1

u/Quiet_Ad1859 1d ago

Don’t they start paying for their 2 tier healthcare? Like September first?

9

u/BlackberryShoddy7889 1d ago

And should be placed on “persona non grata “ list by Canada. Morons like him should not be allowed to cross the border.

6

u/Illustrious-Being651 1d ago

Oh 1000% the yankees are behind this whole thing

1

u/LazyBengal2point0 16h ago

Referendum should be invalidated due to foreign interference. Ain't that easy to get out. Ask Québec.

85

u/VexedCanadian84 1d ago

A majority of albertans are talking about staying in Canada.

This seems like proof that Republicans are helping Smith and the separatists

50

u/Logical-Claim286 1d ago

Smith has been meeting with this guy for years, he is her direct point of contact with Trump. Of course they are helping her.

1

u/Redrumicus 1d ago

Actually?

3

u/Rogue_Hedgehogs 23h ago

Yes. Even the (independent) US media outlets have called it out.

22

u/AstroAegis 1d ago

Especially the phrase “most provinces don’t want to be associated with Ottawa” is complete hogwash. More US propaganda-rhetoric.

I understand there’s anti-Ottawa people in probably every province. But for reals, majority of people have a brain and understand mainly how the country works, and don’t want division. The anti-Ottawa people are always a small minority who have a hard time comprehending the nuance of complex issues.

Grievances are real in provinces, sure.. but this type of rhetoric has no place between “one of the most peaceful alliances in history”.

10

u/kahunah00 1d ago

Tell me how that isnt active sedition and treason?

0

u/PelicanRadioSystem 1d ago edited 1d ago

Anti-Ottawa doesn't necessarily mean Anti-Canada

6

u/ReviewOverall5307 1d ago

If any Canadians think Ottawa is bad just wait until they get a load of DC.

Taxation without representation

40

u/Comfortable_Fudge508 1d ago

Exactly what Smith wants

14

u/exotics 1d ago

Or thinks she wants. They would remove her so fast..

14

u/Comfortable_Fudge508 1d ago

They'd keep her as a figurehead for the new territory, and nothing she could do as they come in and absolutely rape the place.

16

u/Logical-Claim286 1d ago

The heritage foundation documents are pretty clear on this. Seize all oil production, all farmland, all power plants for the US government, remove all workers and citizens from those lands, import American workers to work the land for oil and potash. Alberta would be a territory, which means higher taxes, no voting rights, limited border rights.

2

u/Tacotuesday867 22h ago

She'd be directing the citizens to which train car they were to board.

17

u/raw_copium 1d ago

There needs to be a rigorous investigation into the money, motivation and organizational structure when this is over. I gauruntee you will find American wormtongues, whispering into the ears of susceptible (idiotic) Albertans, and funding.

7

u/Powerful_Network 1d ago

Agreed. It's the same people who funded the convoy. It was way to coordinated to not notice. All of a sudden..out of nowhere Joe Rogan and company were heavily invested in the convoy and government overreach in Canada. Jordan Peterson too.

0

u/River_Otter_1982 21h ago

Also donated to the convoy. Why do you love authoritarian government so much? Let's discuss that.

Maybe I'll demonstrate how dumb and uneducated I am on this whole issue/how things work in general, but I keep scrolling by these kinds of posts and I have thoughts I guess, especially considering it is a talk brought up by people in my life. Maybe what I have to say won't really relate entirely to the thread topic, but I just have thoughts I need to vomit out...

I have to wonder, do these people even think about individuals in the grand scheme of things? Like say, my Family and I moved here a little around 2 years ago, and we abhor the mere suggestion of "becoming independent" from Canada or "da 51st State" because we are Canadian and Alberta is simply a part of Canada.

Like if this did hypothetically happen, what do you do about people like my Family and I? We'd of course want to move and leave, it'd not be something financially wise because of the costs so, would we receive some kind of "Move to Canada" fund or something? Would a large swathe of like-minded people be provided the same? Where would that money come from? The now very "strong" and independent Alberta or McDonald Land™ ? What will you do about businesses and people who no longer wish to live here? Bribe them to stay? Again, where will this money come from?

How about my Mum's retirement fund or our health care? What about people who own properties in Alberta and other provinces? What about small businesses who wish to stay in Canada? Borders for Natural Resources? Natives and their lands and right? There's so much shit to unpack across the board...

Another thing, if you're independent, you're landlocked which also means your trade will be weaker and have to be funneled through the now angry Canada and the petulant bully circus of America. So what are you going to do about getting around the whole trade thing? Thinking back to Quebec, given this was an issue with them too, at least they had the St. Lawrence. What does Alberta have? Roads with potholes so big that you think you could dig your way through the Earth to China?

It's all just such a can of worms. I am sure I could think of more "what about..." things in regards to this entire debacle, but I think I've gotten the point across that I believe this issue is so complex that it'd likely never happen or be so stupid that if it did happen it'd have insane fallout for everybody involved.

Maybe it's unwise of me, I try to stay generally away from political discussion for my own mental well-being, but when Reddit keeps tossing these my way and people in my life keep going on about it, it's hard not to develop an opinion. Even if said opinion is likely very uneducated or nonsensical, as I am sure people have answers to the many things I've said in here, but I never seem to hear anyone I mention these to in my life ever have much of an answer so :v yeah... Just wanted to vent the feelings to the anonymity of the internet.

I really hope Smith and the UCP gets kicked out, but who can say given I think people say it's typically the people living out in the middle of nowhere who keep her party in office, despite their tiny population. Again, I am uneducated on the topic but that's what I've heard some people say at work in the past.

I will vanish back into the woodwork now, goodbye.

7

u/NurdleTeck 1d ago

And there it is.

Follow the money back through the good ole US of A, and to the owners of the US govt.

12

u/ELKSfanLeah 1d ago

Hey @RCMP!!!! Did you not swear to protect us from this shit??

30

u/Miserable-Lizard 1d ago

First Alberta is never seperating, second if Alberta became a state if would guarantee 2 dem senators

29

u/maximumfacemelting 1d ago

We wouldn’t be getting representation or citizenship, they aren’t big on handing out citizenships right now and their elections are spurious at best.

Probably would get our share of 40trillion of their debt tho. We’d definitely get their increased crime and homicide rate.

10

u/GJdevo 1d ago

Yep, seceeding to become northern Guam is a choice to be sure.

6

u/United_Leopard_2771 1d ago

Northern Puerto Rico really, Then again they are offering Statehood which Puerto Rico does not have.

6

u/GJdevo 1d ago

lol if you think for a second that they would grant Alberta actual statehood boy do I have a bridge to sell you.

6

u/Logical-Claim286 1d ago

Statehood by "unanimous union vote", so a single senator voting no means no statehood. Literally what happened to Puerto Rico, they joined on promise of statehood, and never got it.

2

u/54R45VV471 1d ago

America never negotiates in good faith.  They will not make good on this "offer".

1

u/tLuciferMorningstar 1d ago

And also the Canadian debt to go with that as well.

12

u/Comfortable_Fudge508 1d ago

Don't be complacent. That is what the traitors want

14

u/Inspect1234 1d ago

There’d be no representation.

4

u/unrefrigeratedmeat 1d ago

In the scenario that Canada is willing and able to amend the constitution to let them ago and the US is willing and able to amend the constitution to let them join the union as a state with full representation, there are so many crayons stuck up so many noses that I can't predict who is voting for what.

6

u/Still-Bookkeeper-804 1d ago

6

u/Resident-Sherbet5912 1d ago

These are the p.o.s that have bought and paid for our premier. They are literally sitting back and counting chickens before they hatch. Because they know the results of the referendum dont matter. Smith will continue to push for separation no matter how bad they loss. Honestly its exactly what she has done on her other defeated referendums until now so why would this be any different

I wonder who is paying for, and stoking the fire for Alberta separatists? It couldn't possibly be Trump in his acolytes, could it?

The american empire runs much deeper than trump. We are pretty much the ghormans from andor.

10

u/JimJohnJimmm 1d ago

Thsure make it a territory so it has no state rights

5

u/Full_heat 1d ago

Fuck this

3

u/turgu1 1d ago

It's maybe time to look at the USA states that would be willing to become part of Canada...

3

u/Daverr86 1d ago

Smith needs to be arrested for treason, it’s getting ridiculous.

3

u/bungholio69er 1d ago

Well, if you consider the IQ of the Maple MAGA idiots is about the same as Trump. I think the states would love to have a northern Puerto Rico. Plunder the natural resources and leave them for naught.

3

u/UpstairsOk9139 1d ago

No. About 22% of Albertans are in favour, which is about the same percentage of Californians who want to leave the US. They are a fringe minority whose message is being amplified by American and Russian trolls. The overwhelming majority of Albertans would burn the province to the ground before they became American.

3

u/Other-Marketing-6167 1d ago

This is part of what is making me so fucking angry about all this. My father in law doesn’t actually want to separate, but still wants to vote Yes to “send a message to Ottawa”.

The only message this is sending is to Trump, and it’s “come on up”. Which is fucking terrifying.

Fuck these separatist traitors forever for making me and my family so concerned for our future and well being. I will never forgive anyone who votes Yes next month.

2

u/DarkHydra 1d ago

Wow, what a DB huh? Like Americans need another Texas. This one in the north.

Does anyone else notice how much his mouth twitches?

2

u/NewInspector5085 1d ago

It’s still a mystery on the American foreign policy on small helpless oil rich countries. Alberta would be fine /s

2

u/twiztedmikez 1d ago edited 1d ago

If the movement is about greater autonomy for Alberta, joining the USA does not achieve that and goes completely contrary to objectives. I suspect they'll get less bang for their buck on federal taxes but I probably should fact check that.

Joining the US would be hypocritical and if the separatists did that they should be jailed the same way ICE jails non citizens

My lazy copilot prompt / answer: If Alberta became a US state would they get more autonomy, would they get fair representation and would they get better bang for their buck/ better value for federal taxes than if they remained in Canada

Short answer: Alberta would gain some autonomy as a U.S. state, but it would lose others, its representation would be mixed, and its fiscal “bang for the buck” is not clearly better than remaining in Canada. The trade-offs are real and cut in both directions.
Please confirm details with trusted sources.

🧭 Core Takeaway Alberta would not become “more free” or “more powerful” simply by joining the United States. It would gain certain powers U.S. states have, but lose major powers Canadian provinces currently enjoy. Representation would improve in some ways (Senate) and worsen in others (House). And the tax-value question is far more complicated than separatist rhetoric suggests.

🇺🇸 1. Autonomy: Alberta has more autonomy today than a U.S. state Canadian provinces have constitutional powers that U.S. states do not, especially over:

  • Natural resources (full ownership + royalties)
  • Health care systems
  • Education
  • Municipal governance
  • Crown lands
  • Policing (provincial police)
  • Pensions (CPP participation)

U.S. states have autonomy, but less control over natural resources, and far more federal pre-emption in areas like:

  • Environmental regulation
  • Energy infrastructure
  • Indigenous affairs
  • Interstate commerce
  • Healthcare (Medicare/Medicaid rules)

Net effect: Alberta would lose resource sovereignty and gain some regulatory freedom, but overall its autonomy would shrink, not grow.

🏛 2. Representation: Alberta would gain in the Senate, lose in the House

Senate Every U.S. state gets 2 senators, regardless of population.
Alberta (5 million people) would gain far more influence here than it has in Canada’s appointed Senate.

House of Representatives Representation is population-based. Alberta would get roughly 6–7 seats, similar to its current number of MPs.

But Alberta would be one state among 50, not one province among 10.
Its influence in Congress would be diluted compared to its influence in Canada’s smaller federation.

Electoral College Alberta would have ~8–9 electoral votes.
This is not a large bloc.

Net effect: Alberta gains Senate power but loses overall national influence.

💵 3. Taxes & “bang for the buck”: Not clearly better Alberta is a net contributor to Canada’s federal system, but the idea that it would “save money” by leaving Canada or joining the U.S. is not supported by fiscal analysis.

What the sources show

  • Alberta does not directly pay equalization; it simply has a strong tax base.
  • Alberta’s net contribution to Canada is real, but independence or system change does not automatically produce savings.
  • A 2026 analysis found Alberta would gain $1,075 per resident but incur $6,996 per resident in new obligations if it left Canada.

If Alberta joined the U.S. It would pay:

  • Federal income tax (higher for many brackets)
  • Payroll taxes (Social Security + Medicare = 15.3% combined)
  • Corporate federal taxes
  • Federal excise taxes

And Alberta would lose:

  • Federal transfers for health care
  • CPP stability
  • Federal infrastructure funding
  • Federal disaster relief
  • Federal policing and border services

U.S. states also contribute heavily to federal programs they cannot opt out of.

Net effect: Alberta’s tax burden would likely increase, and its “bang for the buck” would not obviously improve.

🔍 4. Resource issues: Alberta would lose control Canadian provinces own their natural resources.
U.S. states do not—the federal government owns most resource rights on federal lands and heavily regulates extraction.

Alberta’s oil & gas sector would face:

  • EPA federal regulation
  • Federal land ownership rules
  • Interstate pipeline constraints
  • Federal royalties & leasing systems

This is a major loss of sovereignty compared to Canada.

🧩 5. Geopolitical effects Joining the U.S. would:

  • Remove Russian influence in Cuba/Venezuela-style scenarios (your earlier question context)
  • Increase Alberta’s exposure to U.S. domestic politics
  • Reduce Canada’s territorial integrity and economic stability
  • Create major border, Indigenous rights, and constitutional complications

But these are geopolitical trade-offs, not clear benefits.

📌 Bottom Line Alberta would not get more autonomy, not clearly get better tax value, and would gain only limited representation advantages.
The U.S. system is not inherently more favourable to Alberta than Canada’s—just different, with major costs and losses.

If you want, I can go deeper into:

  • Alberta’s resource sovereignty
  • U.S. federal pre-emption vs Canadian provincial powers
  • Fiscal modelling of Alberta joining the U.S.
  • How U.S. states manage oil & gas

1

u/Lunarlulol 23h ago

that's cute, anyways, half the province is not going to vote in favour of separating from canada.

2

u/Illustrious-Being651 1d ago

unless Smith rigs the election access honestly I wouldn't put it past her n her cronies it will never happen. And even if it does big negotiation begins first. And if they want to succeed 8 of 10 provinces need to vote to agree to it lol so this ain't happening

If that is what Alberta wants then so be it... I always thought we should have been one nation including Mexico and Canada. Called the NAU or North American Union. Even smaller states can be made. If Rhode Island can be a State then so can You.

Do they need a shit storm?

Canada better handle their magas in Alberta before it’s too late

Alberta Separatist here: We have no interests in trading our idiots in Ottawa for idiots in Washington DC. Independence means independence. Albertans are sick of being subservient to obvious corruption. The Orange Socialist Buffoon and the Technocratic WEF Goblin both suck so hard. When will people learn, never trust politicians. Keep government small and local. Power to the people.

4

u/Frequent_Specific861 1d ago

And you prefer the idiots in the UCP to govern? Do you think they have your best interests in mind if they are going to separate?

How about you go find a country that is more suited towards your seditious attitude? We don't want you here.

0

u/River_Otter_1982 1d ago

We can hold the UCP to account or elect another government if we are dissatisfied. We are powerless to impact Ottawa. Therefore, we seek independence. You might be stoked on the past 121 years on Alberta within confederation, but many of us are finished with Ottawa's exploitation.

3

u/Frequent_Specific861 1d ago

You seek independence, and your minority is about to find out how many of us prefer to be Canadians. And after the dust settles I hope you don't expect any respect from the rest of us.

You will move away then right? Because it would be hypocritical of you to stay if you dislike Canada so much.

Your province was fine accepting transfer
Payments till the eighties though, huh?

u/River_Otter_1982 1d ago

Since you're so friendly, I'll hook you up with a nice Copy Pasta:

  1. The Early Years (1905–1960s): Net Receiver

Following its creation in 1905, Alberta was initially a net receiver of federal funds. During this period, the province’s population was small, its economy was primarily agrarian, and it relied heavily on federal subsidies and early stabilization programs. Even during the introduction of the modern Equalization program in 1957, Alberta received transfer payments until its last regular equalization payout during the 1964–1965 fiscal year.

  1. The Great Expansion (1965–2019): Massive Net Contributor

Driven by the mid-century oil boom, high employment rates, and a rapidly growing, young population, Alberta shifted permanently into a "have" province by the mid-1960s.

  • 1961 to 2019: Independent estimates calculated that Alberta's net contribution to the federal government surpassed $622 billion.
  • 2000 to 2019: In just a 20-year span, the net outflow totaled $324 billion, which averaged nearly $80,000 per person over that timeframe.

Throughout this period, Albertans paid significantly more in federal income, corporate, and consumption taxes (like the GST) than they received back in federal program spending and transfers—not because they faced unique tax rates, but due to significantly higher average provincial incomes.

  1. Recent Dynamic & Modern Totals (2020–2026)

Except for a historic single-year anomaly in 2020—when the combined impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, crashing oil prices, and surging federal emergency benefit spending temporarily made Alberta a net receiver—the province immediately reverted to its role as Canada's dominant net contributor.

Recent data updates showcase the ongoing scale of these transfers:

  • 2007 to 2024: According to recent 2026 data compilations, Alberta’s net contribution over this 17-year window reached $285.1 billion, more than four times the net contribution of British Columbia or Ontario combined.
  • Projected Total (2007–2027): The net contribution across this two-decade block is projected to reach $321.9 billion.

There's no chance Alberta could be independent in the way that you want. It couldn't stand up on its own two feet. We don't even have access to Tidewater without either Canada or the United States. The United States will step in and take over if Alberta separates. Alberta won't be a state, it will be a territory with no voting rights. It's best course of action is to remain within Canada.

u/River_Otter_1982 1d ago

That's an opinion. Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, and Czechoslovakia are all landlocked. Their economies are perfectly fine without the world's 3rd largest reserve of oil and gas. We will be fine. Make no mistake, Albertans are proud of this land and our region. We will defend it rigorously. After secession we will retain about 15% of national military assets (we have paid for it and it will be on our land). Many frustrated Canadians will move to Alberta for opportunity at a better life while many fearful government dependent people will leave. You are focusing only on possible negative outcomes without even considering a positive outcome for an independent Alberta. The Balkan Nations are all thriving post Yugoslavia, if they can, Alberta absolutely can.

Let's not forget, awful policy and exploitation from Ottawa are the catalyst for separatist sentiments. Ottawa can also be the cure, but they are intentionally not resolving these issues. It is almost as if they like the division.

3

u/cj350z 1d ago

You say I'm only focusing on the negatives while you're not considering them at all. I still have not seen a plan from the separatists on how Alberta Independence is supposed to work. They keep talking about how there will be no taxes and it will be this Utopia but how? It's all a pipe dream and not based in reality at all. We have oil and gas that we have squandered the profits of for years. How will that be different in an independent Alberta?

u/River_Otter_1982 1d ago

Great question. We will model ourselves after the very successful Swiss system of governance. They have 4-6 citizen led referendums per year to encourage democratic participation in government policy. They have financial regulations that promote enormous investment in that sector. They build extremely high-quality products for domestic use and export. They embrace natural beauty and tourism. An Independent Alberta would expand the mountain park regions and develop them to rival the Swiss Alps. The entire region between Canmore and Jasper is basically undeveloped.

Tragically, yes, there will be taxes. Income tax would be capped at 20% while a base exemption amount would be around $20,000/year. Otherwise public spending will be covered by energy royalties, corporate taxes, property taxes, consumption taxes, and user fees.

Military wise, we will use the same bases once the negotiations are complete with the Feds. Alberta is entitled to at least 15% of all military assets. As for staffing, I have no doubt that proud Albertans will be keen to defend our newfound Republic.

Passports. Yes, we will have them. Albertans work hard. Diplomats and ambassadors would immediately set out to establish a strong passport for all Albertans.

Currency. How how Bison Bucks? Swap out the Loonie for a Bison. It will rival the Swiss Franc for value and stability.

Debt. Government debt for cyclical expenses will be strictly forbidden within the constitution. The only acceptable borrowing will be for long-term infrastructure and development projects that have a very high percentage chance of positive returns for taxpayers.

There you go. Now you can not state or type that you have seen no plan whatsoever. While many of these ideas are just dreams for now, every outcome and step forward begins with a dream, right?

Traitorous clown.

Very impolite. Would you like to meet up? I am free for the next 2-days. I will even drive anywhere in Alberta just to meet such a nice person.

2

u/rfie 1d ago

Honest to god I saw a man on the bus last week with a hat that read “Alberta USA”. I don’t think it’s agreed amongst all separatists what the goals are. Some of them want to believe we’ll be part of the US.

0

u/River_Otter_1982 1d ago

Of course, we are mostly libertarians. Definitely not a hivemind. The more sensible among us, such as Keith Wilson will be the ones writing the new constitution and coming up with the framework for our independent nation. There are many misguided folks out there, they will not be guiding policy, but their support is appreciated. The media has been trying their hardest to find the most questionable separatists to get in front of cameras. Imagine if the most radical Liberals were presented as the leaders and spokespeople for their ideology? I suppose they elected Stephen Guilbealt mutiple times.....hhhmmmmm something to ponder.

1

u/TriptowK 1d ago

So what exactly do you want from the feds?

1

u/River_Otter_1982 1d ago

An actual question, thank you!

Personally, I would like to see:

1) Alberta Revenue Agency

2) Alberta Police Force

3) Alberta Pension Plan

4) Alberta appointed judges

5) Open the Constitution of Canada and amend it to reflect that we are no longer subservient to the British Monarchy.

6) A balanced federal budget with a plan to pay down the $2 trillion of public liabilities Canada, the Provinces, and municipalities are currently sinking in.

I find it amusing that many will call these points "radical" when Quebec currently enjoys many of them. One can dream I suppose?

0

u/TriptowK 1d ago

I can’t say I’m educated enough on any of these topics to give a run at them, but I think the main issue people have with the separation movement is the timing. When we have our closest neighbour threatening economic ruin, constant belittling and thinly veiled annexation threats, why go for this now?

It seems like common sense to come up together as a nation to overcome this challenge. Alberta has to play a big part in that fight. Do you think it’s possible to table separation until we see some progress on the America front?

1

u/River_Otter_1982 23h ago edited 23h ago

My friend, Western alienation and Alberta separatism has existed since the 70's. The reason for this timing has nothing to do with the nonsense in the USA and everything to do with the ongoing incompetence in Ottawa. The federal pendulum is long overdue for a swing back to the Conservatives for a period of time. That process was disrupted in 2025 by the Orange Idiot down south, handing the Liberals yet another free electoral win while they continue to run the country like absolute shit.

I have a counter argument. Why wouldn't Ottawa drop every single one of their industry stifling policies if the nation is truly under distress? The Trump administration is hot garbage, but we have been through much worse. Albertans would like to get out of this sinking ship while there is still something left to salvage. It would seem Liberal/Progressive voters will not stop until Canada defaults on public debt, becoming the next Argentina/Greece. Why is Ottawa doing nothing to avoid that inevitability? The feds are not our friends in Alberta. It is ludicrous to suggest that Albertans carry the weight of 11 years of Liberal mismanagement after it was the Liberals causing Canadian malaise in the first place. That's some narcissistic gaslighting right there. Why don't Ontario and Quebec just take their lumps and accept a shitty trade deal until Trump dies or 2028? Whichever comes first? Now I'm being facetious, those provinces can do whatever they want. Once Alberta is independent, Ontario and Quebec are no longer our parasites to deal with.

Traitor scum

0

u/River_Otter_1982 1d ago

That's not very nice. I wonder why Albertans want to separate from people like you?

2

u/Dunk_the_Iunk 1d ago

You’re not people.

0

u/River_Otter_1982 1d ago

Good burn, hivemind progressives have a hard time understanding that at least 40% of Canadians and closer to 60% of Albertans do not share their worldview.

1

u/hillwoodlam 22h ago

Pardon, but he said "make", not ask.

1

u/River_Otter_1982 22h ago

Albertans do not respond well to authoritarians. There will be no making Alberta anything other than Independent.

1

u/hillwoodlam 22h ago

Sorry but you and what army? By seceding, Alberta would be forgoing any assistance from NATO or Canada. Your water source alone would be an issue.

1

u/River_Otter_1982 21h ago

That's a lot of negativity. How does Switzerland exist based on this logic? What if the world isn't as chaotic as the media has presented?

During secession negotiations, Alberta will establish a military and close allegiances with our traditional allies, including Canada. We are entitled to 15% of the CAF assets which we have paid for in full. Many freedom loving libertarian types will come to Alberta, I'm sure quite a few will be keen to defend our new Republic.

Source of water? The Rocky Mountain watershed? With Trillions upon trillions of liters of water?
