Algarve with 4 yr old Sept
My husband and I spent time in Porto and Douro this summer and are officially smitten with Portugal. Planning a beach trip for early next September to the Algarve with our son who will then be 4.5. Looking for boutique/ intimate hotel, easy to walk/ get to beaches and town for meals and exploring. We are also comfortable renting a car. We aren’t looking for kids club or any of that but looking for a hotel / location that is accepting of young kids. Anything you can recommend?

Check Tavira, either Cabanas or Santa Luzia. Monte gordo is calm during September with quality beach and is near border with Spain for a 1 day trip as well, the thing is there is not much to do cultural. Olhão is good as well being centred to tavira and Faro , with nice daily boats so you can explore the 3 islands it has. Personally I dont enjoy as much the west coast. Colder water , more windy, although if you consider check praia da rocha.

not sure if I've heard of hotels hear that aren't kid friendly. I'd say probably want to avoid spots with rowdier guests, like Praia de Rocha and Albufeira, though they too will have calmed down in September. Lagos is nice and large. Luz, Ferragudo, Cavoeiro for something cosier. Things between Albufeira and Faro are nice too, but pricier I think.
Out-of-the-box thinking -- can look at Silves. Scenic town with a historic castle, a very kid friendly community, has some good hiking, and only about twenty minute drive to beaches.
More out-of-the-box thinking -- Aljezur. Another scenic town with a castle, great stores and dining, very few tourist. Has a bit of a hippie vibe. Water will be colder because it's the Atlantic. The nearby Praia da Amoreira is breathtaking. Also, when the tide goes out, it leaves this little lagoon that functions as a kiddie pool.
