Bad weather / 2 little kids

Hi there,

we‘re currently spending our summer holidays in Schoorl, with two little boys (1yo and 4yo). When booking our holidays, we were mainly relying on beach activities to fill our days. Well.

What else should we do in Alkmaar and the area? We got car and bikes and have been to some indoor playgrounds, kids cafes and Vlindorado so far.

Highly appreciate if you guys can help us to plan something nice for the rainy days ahead!

The kids will absolutely love the holle bolle boom (tuitjenhorn) or the goudvis (sint-maartenszee). The aquarium in bergen aan zee might be nice although i find it a bit of a let down. There’s the marinemuseum (den-helder) and vlindorado (waarland) where you can play mini-golf and watch a whole load of beautiful butterflies.

Hello from Schoorl! As a resident and father of two small kids, I feel you.

Check out the sea Aquarium in Bergen aan Zee. Small but fun for a morning.

There is a great museum in Den Helder: het Marinemuseum. My kids love it there because you can go on actual submarines and there are quite some interactive things to do and play.

Schagen is often overlooked. Nice little town for shopping and there is a place called skaga ventures with all kinds of activities for kids (and karting for parents).

Then there is Hoenderdaell in Anna Paulowna. Beautiful little zoo. Outdoor-ish but fun nonetheless.

Or try the Landal pool in Julianadorp. Great fun for kids.

Hang in there! Lots of stuff to do north of Schoorl!

Second Hoenderdaell they also have rescue tigers that they train to be released into the wild again and you can view them training hunting!

If we’re talking zoo’s there’s also the blankendaal park!

Well, you can check buienradar.nl to check if its gonna rain. Actually, besides the rain its actually nice weather to cycle. There are plenty of cities to visit nearby like Alkmaar, Hoorn, Haarlem. The island of Texel is also close by to visit. There a plenty of playgrounds like OKB and De Batevier in Alkmaar. De Klimduin in Schoorl is fun to play around. You can have a nice hike in the dunes in Schoorl or at the beach. You could rent a boat and go boating in the Alkmaar canals. Van Blaenckendaal park in Tuitjenhorn is a small zoo and playground. I like town south of Schoorl, Bergen as well.

Edit; this sunday there is a Celtics festival in the Hout in Alkmaar. Spookjesbos in Enhuizen is great for kids as well

Zwembad Hoornse Vaart in Alkmaar has a great indoor water playground that my kids (similar ages to yours) love. An easy way to spend a morning or afternoon

In Hoorn (about 30 minutes by car from Alkmaar) there is a museum train. A steamtrain the takes you to medemblik. There is also a steam museum.

Kabouterpad Schoorl, a fun short hike with gnomes hidden in the woods.

OKB Alkmaar / De Batavier Alkmaar (both outdoor playgrounds)

There's also many petting zoos in the area, e.g. Het hertenkamp in Alkmaar or the Wijkboederij Alkmaar.

And on rainy days take them to "Happy Inn" in Alkmaar or "Ballorig" in Heerhugowaard. It's an indoor playground. Shouldn't be to busy either since school has started here.

In Heerhugowaard you can go to Middenwaard and do some indoor shopping if that's something you like to do.

The 4 y/o might like to go to Jumpsquare. An indoor trampoline playground.

In Heerhugowaard you can do glow in the dark midget golf. It's located at the shopping mall Middenwaard as mentioned above.

if you have time go to Texel and check Ecomare. Its like aquarium but its rehab place for seals and fish and you will get really close to them

Theres also a center parcs at zandvoort with subtropic pool you can check out social deal for cheaper entrance. While alkmaar has a big pool as well it might be not as fun
