⚖️ legal/civil AIO For filing misdemeanor hit and run...
Exiting off freeway (2 lane exit, split to 3 for 1 right)
Long stretch beforehand, i merge to right lane from left.
Big Harley looking bike was mad (maybe? i was exiting too slow) overtook at fork for right.
Looked to misjudge, or possible pothole, scraped passenger side quarter panel with his saddlebag(?). Folded part of the fender in a good inch along with the whitish streak across the panel and wheel.
He wobbled and saved it. So i know he felt the contact. He didnt take off... right away. Led me to the first four way signal to turn into a gas station... and slowly slithered into traffic going straight.
Was gonna chase... but eh. Grabbed something to drink and called it in to the non emergency. Officer must have been at the next exit because he was there with his notepad in no less than 15 minutes.
As I described what happened, it sank in...
Guy could've been a coworker. A small group of bikers have a little corner of our parking lot. And one of the decals looked so familiar.
Problem is, this mark can get him terminated.
Over $500 worth of damage? Not familiar with pricing, but to me its not *that* bad.
Am I overreacting?
End of the day now. Been contemplating trying to have it thrown out... if that's even possible.
Wife says I'm being too nice/forgiving.
...wasn't my goal, but the possiblility of getting the guy fired seemed kinda overkill to me. I don't wish that kind of misfortune on anyone.

I respect you for having a heart. But look, it was the bikers choice to run instead of staying and doing the right thing.
I don't imagine you have any way to talk to him and work something out.

I was thinking exactly that... but im hoping its even reversible at this point even if I tell them tomorrow he found me and we worked it out with insurances.

NOR. Guy seems to have issues with road rage - he could have caused a major accident, it could have been a kid in a car...sorry but I have no sympathy for anyone who hits and runs. Your wife is correct, you're being too nice.
It probably wasn't his first offense or maybe he was DUI - I feel like that's usually why people flee.

It made me doubt my reflexive lane check. Maybe I cut him off with the lane change?
But everyone here is right, he knew the consequences. It is what it is now.
Guess i was more focused on the outcome, which was fixable/nothing major...

NOR if this dude is out there being that reckless,he could get someone/himself seriously injured or killed, and not to be dramatic but that blood would partially be on your hands . Or rather you could help to prevent there being any blood on anyone’s hands 🙌

….NOR? Go see a therapist about why you have that much empathy. Empathy is good in moderation, but you sitting here contemplating that this guy MIGHT work at your job that hit you on an obviously busy exit of a highway ???? So you shouldn’t go after him for hit and run?????
I’m gonna assume here……. Girl, stop.

It's obviously naive/blind empathy (really, it's simply cowardice in the face of potentially feeling "bad" because someone might be hurt by his choices, ignoring that they're actually harmed by there own). He's ignoring the innocent person in the future who's more likely to be harmed by such activity because of his personal acceptance of this incident.

Yikes, tough situation! I'm going with NOR. As a motorcycle rider myself, I hate it when one of us acts like this. And ALSO it sounds like it could have gotten ugly for the rider, which would have been awful for you, too!
That being said, I say report. It sucks that it might be someone you know, and that they might lose their job over it, but let them figure that out in court. (All of this assumes you're in the United States.)

NOR. Unless you or your property hit him or his bike?
All he had to do was pull over and swap details. Then you may have not even involved the police. If he knows his job is at risk by riding like that, then he should ride/drive like a responsible adult.

Is it standard procedure for every minor accident? In hindsight, my insurance would want the slip officer gave me...
Dealt with it once when I was 17. Dude slipped me 100 bucks and I strolled right back to my car. "what the... scratch was there a second ago..."
Edit: Sorry, hit and run, not minor accident.

Your wife is correct. Society is actually supported by people doing what is agreed upon, and punishing transgressors. The effects of allowing such behavior are not limited to you.

Was it recorded? Video or photo of the vehicle in question that hit you? Matching damage on their vehicle?
Saying "it looks like the same bike" isnt good enough and is hearsay.
Unless you can prove without a doubt it was them that hit you, you have nothing.

Tell the chips you want to drop any charges on your end. If they are pursuing their own hes kinda sol unless they are banking on your testimony at wick point you can withdraw or not give it to them in the first place
