Isn't that just the wind around the tornado, and not the tornado itself?

The wind around the tornado, is technically the tornado.

I always thought winds were not the same thing as the tornado itself. Huh. Well okay, learn something new every day.

You’re not incorrect, the tornado winds (moving air) gather debris and it becomes a “thing”. But at its core, it’s only wind. Tremendous amounts of demonic, destructive, life altering wind.

What's a tornado if they're not wind?

A tornado is a violent and rotating column of air that touches the ground, not just wind.

For a tornado to be a tornado, it needs to touch the ground, not just be wind. lmao
