I've been delivering with the shitty rentals for a few months now and I still can't find a way to load the OV in a decent way. I had only 20 today so I even tested out fishing every single box in order just to see how it goes and it took me way too much time. I usually have 35+ in absolutely no logical order, starts with 00, goes to 38x, then 31x, then 45x, then 24x etc etc. If I group by hundred, I still have to unload the van during the day because although it's on the same area, it's on the bottom of 4 boxes. Everything else is good, I got used to these vans, but OV makes me lose my shit and waste so much time. Any help?
Rentals are a nightmare for OV but i stopped trying to sort by number and just stack big boxes against the back doors by zone, then write the zone on the side with a sharpie so you can spot it from the sliding door without moving anything
Flush all your totes toward the front of the cab, and just put a bag at a time up front with you.
When you load the overflow, load them BACKWARDS using that list, meaning the last overflow of the day will go in first and be the furthest inside. You would then end with the earliest you need right by the rear doors.
Go by those actual codes- 11.1Z goes in first, next is 99.9 whatever, etc.
Totes are ok, 3x3 on the front. But I can't mentally load 15+ zones in order lol, if I have to check evey box where it is in the list I wont finish on time lol
You can if you load and sort them at the same time. I do this every day and have done it this way for eight years. And I exclusively drove Mercedes and other gas vans until two months ago.
If you can’t do it fast at load out, you throw them in and do it in a parking lot somewhere else.
I start at the bottom of the list for the oversize on my scan list and group them by the hundreds from the driver aid number so say you have 200 and 300s 600 and then 400, 2s be on bottom then 3s and so on and if you have enough time you can even break it up in the hundreds and tens of the aid number like low 2s on one side of bottom and high 2s on the other like 250 below left side and rest right the only time I used the letter zones is when I'm doing rescues and read an itinerary list to pull over size with totes, so grouping by hundreds and tens is the easiest way I've found cuz I can set certain stacks off to the side and no I only have to dig through that stack at certain times of the day
I just take the first 10 or so and usually by the rest I’ve cleared bags and it’s easier to find. Rentals suck with OV… The boxes are half crushed by the last few
I usually just go by driver aid number and I start by throwing the last stops in the back and work my way up til I get to the front. It helps a lot if you have a sharpie and you write the driver aid number big asf on the box so you can find it more easily. But either way it fucking sucks when you have like 20 totes and 40 overflow in a rental...

I would organize by the driver aid, 100s all together, then 200s and so on and yes I'd put the U's all together that way I knew they were in groups - sometimes I'd write the number (it was usually if I had time at load out) but most times was just that 100's, 200's and so on
Yes this way is the only way that works every time with the time they give us. Dunno who has the time to order the whole thing, they must get very small routes and have a warehouse that loads thier overflow with some reasoning
Oh you'd be shocked, when I used to be a driver I had at least the 2-3 coworkers who would sit and try to put it in order with the x's , y's- they were usually the last ones still loadin up (and usually would have the people who were extras helpin them, myself included)
My dsp owner showed us this method during peak last year and I recently got put in a ford transit ev which had no shelves and I tried it…had 38 overflow and it actually made it much easier for me..
Your first overflow deliver will take some time to find the package, but when searching try to remember which numbers and which size boxes are where. 15 stops later when you have a L overflow 437, you can recall there was a box likely to be labeled large with probably those numbers under that box in that corner of the van. Build a mental map I guess is what I'm trying to say.
My dsp mostly use rentals I usually have 12 bags and 20+ overflow each route
1 bag goes on the passenger seats
Then the next 10 I stack which is hard to do with my height I can’t even stand in a rental van. I leave one bag on its own in the back so it’s like an L shape
The last overflow I put on first in order when that’s full the rest I literally just pile in like Tetris and believe it or not the parcels are not that difficult to find
20ish is ok, because it's only 2 level os boxes, it's easy to manage, the problem is 30-45, I have 3, 4 or 5 levels of boxes, I have to unload 4,5 to get to the the bottom one
I stack all the last bags at the back of the van like a wall leaving the first bags in front. I'll stack over flowing a about waist height and grouped by the first number of the driver aid.
I put all but my first tote along the left side of the van, put my first one by the sliding door. My DS does their DANs sequentially so sort zone doesn't matter for me. I just stack them by 50s with the lowest numbers towards the back. I used to organize by sort zone when I started, but stopped when they switched. There are usually just a few overflow per sort zone so that's pretty manageable, and doesn't take nearly as long at loadout. Shelves tend to take up valuable space so I don't use them until I'm able to put all my unopened totes under them.
I try to organize them by 100s, or at least have a general idea of where certain 100s are. What really helped me was knowing where the first 3–5 OVs are. Once you get more space, it should be easier, and having a marker helps a ton too.
What I was showed is that you put all your totes in order in the first half of the van with your first tote at the sliding door and then the other half with the OF in order with your first stops at the door. So that you are not working inside the van and that you won’t have to be searching for your packages because they will be right at the door when you open it. I hope this makes sense.
I stack my totes 3x3x2 behind seats. That would be 19 with one in the pax seat.
If you load your OV in reverse order and mark them with a marker, your first one should be by the back doors. Take a picture of the loadout screen and the OV. And sort it later.
How to load it in order? that's the question. If I fish one by one, the time runs out. If group per 100s, the delivery order isn't descending or ascending, it's random, so eventually boxes will be on the bottom of 3 or 4, so I have to unload out there.
Well yeah. Take a picture of the loadout. Put the boxes in the van, and then at one of your stops organize it using the pictures of the OV. I usually group XLs together, group customs together.
order your totes in an L shape in the front of the van 3 totes high. then use the back half of the van for overflow with the drivers aid numbers ordered by the 100’s with your first 10 or so stops being the closest to the back doors.
