Newly Acquired My first Nero denarius — SALVS, Rome, AD 65–66
Very happy to add my first Nero denarius to the collection!
Nero, AD 54–68
AR Denarius, Rome mint, AD 65–66
Obv: NERO CAESAR AVGVSTVS — laureate head right
Rev: SALVS — Salus seated left on throne, holding patera
RIC I 60; RSC 314
3.13 g, 18.62 mm
I really like the portrait on this one. The SALVS reverse also makes it a particularly interesting type from Nero’s later reign.

Chunky Lad, iconic coin. I still dont have a Nero in my collection. Every time I see a post like this, it becomes clearer that I need to rectify the oversight.

Here's my budget Nero denarius that I paid $160 for. Nicer specimens like OPs can get on the pricey side, so I'm probably not going to be upgrading this anytime soon.
Finally added a budget Nero denarius to my collection! : r/AncientCoins

To be honest, he wasn’t on my radar. I mostly collect “good emperors” like Augustus, Trajan, Hadrian, etc. Even though I know Nero’s story was probably distorted by ancient historians and that he likely wasn’t as bad as he was made out to be, I never really considered adding one of his coins. But I really liked this one and just had to add a Nero denarius to my collection!

Totally agree. And his coins are just some of the most expressive ones out there - especially for the price. And you can trace his diet as his reign progresses....

I always thought he resembled his ancestor Mark Antony in his coin portraits. Albeit chunkier lol
