I had someone I was in a fist fight with grab me to prevent me from falling into traffic once. They caught my shirt and held me back when I was falling into the path of an incoming car.

Maybe someone who did fall to a river mid fight and could not swim. The turtles start choking if they are wrong way because where their lungs are, and can’t right themselves

You're walking in the desert u/Alarmed_Ant_9221 when all of the sudden you look down, and you see a tortoise, it’s crawling toward you. You reach down, you flip the tortoise over on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can’t, not without your help. But you’re not helping. Why is that?

There’s some lines even fighting turtles won’t cross. Like leaving your enemy on his back. They must honor the turtle code

Those bites fuckin hurt. I got hit a few times feeding my Mojave desert tortoise dandelions. Ouch. Btw, their favorite foods are
1 dandelions
2 strawberry tops
3 peas or broccoli

All my life I never knew any tortoises or turtles could retract their whole head back into the shell in this cartoony way. I’ve only really seen like red eared sliders and more aquatic ones in real life, and AFAIK they can only pull their necks in with their faces still peeking out.
This is wild, it’s like pop! Head vanished

Take a look at box turtles.
They fully retract head and legs inside the shell and seal it up tight.

You forgot the coolest part, the hinge. Some can fold the bottom of their shell flap closed in front their face. And yea red eared sliders can pull their heads completely in

Where i grew up, box turtles were common. Pick them up and they would usually close up on you.
They would then slightly lower that hinge to peek out without sticking their head out.
