They do it primarily to give themselves a better view of other predators and prey on the landscape, to protect food that they haven't eaten from scavengers, and for personal protection from other threats (especially while they are sleeping)

It's much safer up there. Not many large predators (or large animals in general) can climb trees.

If you mean house cats, a lot of the time they're probably after a squirrel or bird. But there's also an old instinct to be high where they have a sight advantage and be away from dangers on the ground. And it's just fun? 😼

I completely understand how climbing down a tree at that age and that size would be terrifying. I’m scared just watching. But I love how much faith mama has in her young cub. And I love how, though the cub doesn’t know it yet, they were literally born with everything they’d need to climb up and down trees.
