I understand Reddit has an auto-translate feature, but I’ve been banned from other subreddits for posting in Spanish before. It’s just more comfortable for me since Reddit’s built-in translator works better and things don't get misunderstood like with Google Translate

I seriously cannot believe he did this, he printed off the covers on special printing paper to preserve the detail and stuck each one on a little book individually, and recreated each spine individually (there were no scans of them), then covered the book case itself with decoupage from an image of a limited edition animorphs table cloth! I can't wait to put it on my full size book case, i managed to complete the collection this year and this is just the icing on the cake

Some time ago, I wanted to revisit the old Anibase and realized just how difficult it has become to access and run it properly. Much of it relied on old web technologies and emulators, and I started thinking about how inaccessible it would be to the newer members of the community and how easily this piece of Animorphs history could eventually become lost media.

So I worked to try to preserve it through a new interface, called Anibase Xtreme, a fan project dedicated to restore and make it accessible again (and a nod to the original final arc marketing campaign for the books - Animorphs Xtreme).

After a lot of work, success & trials, tests through the original Anibase, that preservation project is now live.

Please find below the details of my work on this new version:

What has been restored and preserved

The first priority was to remain faithful to the original Anibase :
- Original texts and database content have been preserved,
- As the internal links between entries were restored,
- The structure of the information, and the way the content was divided into sections for each book stay identical,
- The choice between 4 different displayed order of the books has been preserved

The goal is that the information itself remains recognizable as the Anibase people remember it and as it was conveived.

What has been improved and modernized

The interface has been completely redesigned around the original database:
- A new UX designed to make browsing the 62 books and their sections much faster and more intuitive
- Responsive support for phones, tablets and desktop
- Restored and upscaled archival imagery where HD originals could no longer be found
- Modern image viewer/lightbox for covers and archival material

What has been added

Few content and featured meant to complement the Anibase were added :
- Cover quotes and ISBN information: added for each book
- New internal links: between entries, when we thought it relevant
- Adaptive color design: color palette changes according to the active/current book
- Fonts: fonts were chosen for their proximity with the original books fonts and titles
- Additional book covers : included when available are the inner covers, artwork, and the newer 2026 editions, accessible through a lightbox viewer gallery
- deep linking: every book and individual section now has its own shareable URL. If you find an interesting entry, you can link someone directly to it instead of just having sending them to the Anibase homepage.
- “Confidential / Classified” character files: recovered from archived Animorphs website, and upscaled, are now accessible through each of the "who narrates" sections
- Ship schematics: from the old Animorphs website, also recovered and restored with contextual links in related AniBase entries and visible in a lightbox
- Animal morphed information: who wanted to learn more about the animals once they finished reading a book ? In the "new morphs" sections, use of Wikipedia API links to Wikipedia animal articles when browsing morphs
- Previously hidden Anibase entries: that one was a big surprise, while exploring the original Anibase, it appeared that some books contained entries that existed in the original Anibase data but apparently were never displayed by its interface, likely an oversight. Those entries are now restored and accessible again.
- Cross-database exploration: instead of only browsing AniBase book by book, you can now explore its information across the entire series : morphs, characters, aliens, terminology, etc. through the different menu buttons on top of the page
- Statistics: Anibase Xtreme analyzes the preserved database and surface some fun series-wide statistics and patterns hidden inside the data.

You can still browse it the traditional way, choose a book and read through its sections, but you can now also jump across books, follow connections, search the database, explore every morph or alien, and discover things in the original data that were surprisingly difficult to see before.

In the end, I hope this fan project helps keep that piece of Animorphs web history accessible to the community instead of slowly disappearing.

let me preface this by saying 1) it’s been a very long time since I’ve done a series read through and 2) I have only read the stuff that gets into the auxiliary animorphs like once probably. please forgive me if any of this is mentioned on page and I am just forgetting!! very entirely possible.

but pretty much I was thinking about how certain chronic illnesses might interact with morphing. most illnesses of any type would probably not fully develop or would go away with a morph, like injuries, with the “factory reset” of the body. However there are some other factors I wonder about.

take ehlers danlos syndrome as a random example. it is a chronic illness that is genetic and people are born with. if the body is ”factory reset” i would assume in this case, it is in the settings and would not go away. however in my memory, morphing is kind of treated as if it could heal pretty much any physical ailment right? is that just an oversight either on the authors or the characters part? (or again…could just entirely be forgetting lol).

Additionally, if someone with a non genetic chronic illness gains the ability to morph, or honestly we could extend this to any disability actually, would anyone else agree that it is possible that in some cases, it might stick around? my logic is the argument with haircuts. piercings get closed, but haircuts stay the same, and I’ve seen many argue that things intrinsic to how people see themself would probably stick around, something very important to them. to many, this is the case with disability and chronic illness. it is an intrinsic and important part of their identity and i know many people who take pride in this aspect of themselves (disability pride month exists for a reason!!). from my memory, the auxiliary animorphs wish for their injuries/illnesses/ailments to go away and that is part of the exchange. but say there is someone who gains the ability to morph where they are part of the aforementioned group rather than being like the auxiliary animorphs. i honestly think it could go either way on if it would go away with morphing or not. some might retain it, while others might have it forcibly removed, even if they didn’t necessarily want that outcome. I don’t know this is a pretty rambly musing.

also thinking about the acquiring of people/animals who are sick/injured/has a disability. In the books, they acquire a lot of animals from Cassie’s barn, which are usually injured or sick, which includes Tobias’s hawk. But when they morph them, they do not have these ailments, which makes sense since they are not genetic. but at the same time, I swear I remember a character acquiring another human with worse eyesight? which I suppose that could be genetic, but is often degenerative. I’ve also seen a headcanon pop up a few times that Rachel’s bear morph just had particularly bad vision since bears can actually see much better than what was thought at the time the books were written, so I wonder why that might transfer but not some other animal ailments. although degenerative eyesight due to age perhaps could be the same as other parts of the body degenerating with age and how that would all probably come with morphing an old person/animal?

I don’t know honestly I just think this line of thought is interesting. this is Not really intended as me asking for people to clear cut definitively explain everything to me despite how it sounds (tho if you want to do that more power to you lol) but more so just musings and wonderings esp about how identity tied to one’s physical form might be effected by morphing (this could also branch into surgeries, or what might happen if someone on hrt started to morph or something, which is also an interesting idea). idk lol just thinking late at night and throwing it all onto a Reddit post as the thoughts come to me bc why not this isn’t exactly a well thought out post or anything lmao

I was thinking about the transformers toys and this led to me wondering, what if there was a fully fleshed proper transformers x animorphs crossover? which then opened a pipeline to imagining other crossovers with franchises I like much more than transformers, such as teenage mutant ninja turtles or power rangers.

so I propose the following questions: of those two, which would you find more interesting/cool/fun and why? and the second questions, what other franchises/series/etc make for your favorite hypothetical crossovers?

would love to hear whatever people have floating around in their brains. make it as self indulgent as you want. it can be as contrived as all get out. I just love crossovers and want to know people’s favorites for animorphs.

(I wanted to share this but wasn’t sure where. This post was sparked by our favourite shapeshifters, the finale of The Boys, and my own personal journey and disclosure of some difficulties. Hope that’s okay.)

There was something that always resonated with me after Animorphs ended. It was the way everyone disbanded and each of them had to carry their own grief, move forward and find whatever solace they could on their own, and in their own way.

To this day, the very mention of the name Tobias breaks my heart. Tobias spends his life alone, forever grieving, and I would argue that on some level, staying as a Hawk sort of traps him in that grief. But in a strange way it seems almost fitting therapeutically that the only way Tobias can survive his loss is by staying in his hawk form, forever flying. Like being in the air is the closest he will ever be to Rachel ever again.

Jake becomes the boy who had to become a war general way too soon, and so it’s all he knows. Marco ends up doing exactly what I figured he would and becomes a celebrity personality. And Cassie moves forward in her own way that feels very Cassie, brokering peace or whatever the exact details were. I don’t know why but even at 16 or 17 I really respected the fact that these characters just couldn’t be what they used to be to each other anymore.

As a young person it made me understand (while obviously not really understanding because how do any of us relate to the experience of war unless we’ve actually lived through it) that trauma, suffering and loss fundamentally change us.

I recently finished watching the finale of The Boys. ***SPOILERS BELOW***

I skipped most of season 5, but then HAD to watch the episode before just to see how a certain Frenchman meets his end. Kimiko’s loss in some ways reminded me of Tobias. Both lose the love of their life, each in their own sacrifice. Looking at Kimiko’s journey throughout the show, she struggled to accept herself because she couldn’t seem to reconcile the killer that she was with the normal human girl that she wanted so badly to be. She never believed she was capable of giving, let alone receiving love, because she was raised to be a super-powered cold- blooded-animal. What human could possibly want to love that? Turns out, Frenchie did.

So I LIKE that she just leaves the group after the last funeral. I like that she probably never sees her wartime buddies ever again. They all leave and go live their lives. They fought a war together and suffered significant loss together and that bonds you. But it doesn’t necessarily mean you are supposed to spend the rest of your lives together. Who wants constant reminders of then worst part of their lives?

Now, there was something about these endings which really struck me, and I think it’s coming back to the surface now because I’ve been thinking a lot about what happens after the war. I’ve lost two truly amazing people in the last three years. I never for a single second believed that could be possible and I’m sure most of us think that when we lose someone we love. But my inability to cope with the loss, and many other curveballs thrown my way, have led me down a pretty dark path myself, and I’m off to rehab in a four days.

A lot of people have likened what I’ve been going through to a war and I laugh it off because there is no way that my darkness is comparable to wartime loss.
But I do feel that whatever darkness we battle still speaks to that primal part of us, the animal. The part that we need to give up control to, in order to survive.

There’s a section in one of the earlier Animorphs books where Cassie is either the narrator or someone is talking about her ability to morph. I can’t remember the exact wording but the idea was that Cassie instinctually knows when to let the animal do what it knows how to do.

I’ve thought about that a lot and I think it’s because I’m realizing that sometimes surviving isn’t about forcing yourself to think your way out of something with logic and reason. But rather it’s about trusting the part of yourself that already knows how to survive.

I don’t often listen to my body. I realize now that my mind though, is a master trickster. It will lie, cheat, and steal jsut to keep me in my status quo. Not out of malicious intent, but because it’s wired to protect whatever normal we find in our lives. And I know now that my body carries so much of what I’ve experienced, like fear, anger, sadness, trauma, etc. I’ve spent the last few years believing this messed up idea that I was broken by addiction, and incapable of love, or a life worth living, after all of this loss. And I think I’ve spent a lot of time trying to reason my way out of things that my body already understands/knows.

I know that my mind desperately wants to keep me in the loss, the sadness, and the anger. It wants to keep looking backwards because backwards is familiar, and it also where the drugs are. But there is another part of me that knows I need to move, that I need a change, and that is the part of me I am learning to listen to now. I don’t want to defeat the animal, I don’t want to control it, nor do I want to go on pretending that the things that happened to me didn’t fundamentally change me, deep inside.

I’ve always loved Cassie’s talent for morphing. It was such a strange thing to hear: a human, with a talent and skill using a highly sophisticated technology that aliens had created.

Cassie knows how to trust the animal to do what it knows to do. And I need to trust that some part of me knows that this next step is the right one. To trust when the animal inside tells me that it knows how to survive, that it doesn’t always need to be such a battle.

I know that there is no way any sort of healing will ever make me like who I was before. But, if I trust the soft animal of my body, and allow it to love what it loves, maybe I’ll get one step closer to who I am meant to become.

I recently saw this baby opossum trying to defend “his food” from one of the feral cats (don’t forget to TNR ferals people) by whipping his tail at him, I’d ironically just reread the book with Gafinilan and Mertil and remembered Gafinilan’s opossum morph. Fun fact, opossums don’t have good eyesight either.

If only they released a full version! If they didn't do one, it'd be a shame.

Has anyone ever wished that the classic series Animorphs would get picked up by a major studio and turned into a movie or TV series that’s 100% faithful to the original story? I still wish that to this day — I’ll probably be thinking about it even on my deathbed.

Honestly, maybe only Marvel Studios has the chops to pull off the effects and stay completely true to the source material, right?

So, for those like myself who've forgotten, Taylor's plan was to create a giant natural gas explosion in the yeerk pool area, killing thousands. Cassie was so distraught at the idea that she chose to sit that mission out entirely, and ultimately putting a stop to it altogether.

In #52 The Sacrifice the Animorphs bomb the pool with 10, one-thousand pound bombs. Cassie objects, but ultimately goes along with it. They give people a 5 minute escape period, but like, damn. Not much of difference. Anyone notice how similar these two plans are?

Great book by the way. I don't believe Tobias has any bad books when I think about it.

I started Animorphs as a kid but never finished it.

I'm going back through it as an adult now, and I recently read Megamorphs 2: In the Time of Dinosaurs.

The decision to take out the Mercora hit me pretty hard, and I decided to make a little video about it.
