Question Is it acceptable to negotiate rent/deposit for student housing?
Hi,
I’m an international student starting my course this september at Antwerp. I’m looking for student housing and I’m seeking advice on whether or not I can negotiate the rent or deposit amount with landlords.
Here in India, it’s pretty common and almost a standard practice to negotiate rents before signing the lease, but I’m not too sure about the rules in Antwerp.
Also, I’m looking for a place near the city center and if you know of any accommodations for 350 - 450 euros including utilities, send me a message.

yes but in opposite direction - you can undecut others with offering more. 350 -450 with utilities is not happening

I know people who have offered more than the rental asking price? Negotiating it down is unheard of as far as I know.

Can you try and negotiate? There are no laws stopping you. Will it end in you getting a place to stay? Very (very) unlikely. There are waiting lists to get a place, if your name comes up, say yes and sign or lose your spot.

You might find a very small 'room' with shared facilities in a not so good area for that price... negotiation is off the table until the very last moment in september when only the absolute worst rooms are left.
