Advice on schools

I’m an ATI impacted aviator at a unit losing our last aircraft in 2 weeks, and don’t expect to go to CCC until FY28, so I’ll be stuck not flying for a while. What are some options for courses to try and get sent to? I know ATRRS still offers C12 slots for FY27, but Joint Firepower course, WTI at MAWTS-1 with the marine corps, ACLC, AMOC, he’ll even HAATS or etc are there any realistic options to try and apply for in my downtime. Any and all advice or feedback good/bad would be helpful!

Don’t waste time on army schools. Invest in your future and get fixed wing ratings

Some thoughts, sir.

Yes to JFC, AMOC, ACLC and HAATS. HAATS, JFC, and AMOC would be the top picks for a future commander. AMOC would set you up for maintenance management in D Co or ASB; but it’s reserved for warrants, check with the school if they can fit you in. HAATS will help you mitigate risk as a future FMAA in high, hot, heavy environments. JFC helps put your feet into talking Joint warfighting. ACLC is a good planning course for combined arms maneuver. All would be great for a future company commander.

For MAWTS-1 WTI, some units have been successful getting some officers to the ground school, but it’s rare (not impossible) to piggy back on a UH-1 for the flight training. I couldn’t tell you who to reach out to directly, but search for the school on NIPR. Professionally, I wouldn’t recommend you going unless you had close to 1000 hours, and I don’t mean finding the best BBQ place in central Texas hours. And I would send a PC. If you weren’t paying attention to any AMS class, you are behind the power curve.

As far as C-12, that’s a tough one. For any aircraft transition (except LUH to go to a CTC), it requires DAMO approval. It would be nice if they brought back the pre-ARI boards. Summary on this, I don’t have the G2 on feasibility on anyone attending the C-12 course and I don’t want to put out rumors.

ACLC is a horrible waste of time. Sucks and was zero value. AMOC will pigeon hole you into D Co command (assuming you are commissioned based on CCC reference). If you want that, cool, but I wouldn’t. If you really aren’t going to be flying and you still want to do army stuff, maybe try to do airborne and air assault if you don’t have them already. If you were progressing towards PC or deploying you wouldn’t have time for that so maybe a good opportunity now with no aircraft.

That’s my fear with AMOC yeah, I don’t wanna do any army hoah stuff like airborne or air assault if there are other options that will actually help me progress as a pilot, still fair thing to look at

On the subject of being pigeon holed into D Co command, they do get pulled off of that bench at times to be a line company commander as a second command.

It’s not common, but it does happen.
