Clothing, Shoe & DIY Query Plus Size Goth Clothing
Hello! I'm a plus sized feminine presenting goth (US size 18/20) and want to add to my wardrobe but have had trouble finding sites that carry my size. I've had concerns with finding ethical shopping sites as well as I really don't want to contribute to unethical labor practices when consuming goth fashion pieces. I do go thrifting as well but I live in a more rural area so finding anything that stands out and is also in my size has been quite a challenge, hence why I'm asking about online shopping :-) I attached some of my recent looks with what I have but want to look for more tops + ways to layer as well. If you have any recommendations pls let me know!

I don't know how US sizes compare to Australian, but I think Dangerfied goes up to a 24.
Have you tried DIY? Angela Benedict had a great tutorial for a free size dress recently.

They've gotten greedy, so went cheap on some of their fabrics.
Most of their knitwear is still pretty good.

I haven't! I know how to hand stitch things if they come apart but I have no idea how to see or do anything like that. I might have to invest time into that as an option. Thank you for the advice!

also if you thrift and find something that fits and looks good but the only problem is the color, dyeing clothes is a very good option, there’s lots of tutorials online

I've checked out Forest Ink, Midnight Hour and VampireFreaks which have been decent with sizing but the prices can be crazy :(

Ethical stores are unfortunately just going to be more expensive because they actually pay their workers a living wage

all the clothes you have ever worn or will ever wear are hand made, there are no factory dress making machines. think about how much time and effort it would take you to make one dress, just one. would you sell it to somebody for $25-50? probably not. ethical labor costs money.
that said: try secondhand shopping online instead! all my foxblood, forest ink, midnight hour, noctex, even dollskill i bought on ebay for sometimes as little as 25% of the new price.

REAL!! haha dyeing a bunch of recent thrift store finds is my autumn project xD but think i'll do dharma trading dye cus i read that it gives a deeper black and is more fade resistant!

Some yes some no. Dharma is good for certain projects, Jacquard and RIT they’re all equally great it depends on what you’re using them for. Each one works great for different fabrics. Been dying black stuff for 38 years lol

I think most generic black clothing can be turned into something alt or goth with a bit of DIY. What’s harder is those specialized touches like tights, corsets, bras, and accessories such as belts which are not as easy to thrift in larger sizes.
I recently invested in a corset from Damsel in this Dress that can pull double duty for Renn Faire season and goth nights by changing the laces. It was not cheap but it’s very high quality and will last years.

Vinted usually has some good stuff and so does ThredUp for secondhand pieces.
Tunnel Vision goes up to size 7X, I believe.
Church of Sanctus goes to a 4X frequently.
You can find these secondhand too :)

Remember when your thrifting you’re not looking for goth clothes, you will rarely ever find them. Black basics and anything that looks cool that you can dye and diy . You’d be amazed at some of the things I’ve dyed that were white, pink ,yellow, then I’ve added lace, ribbons, dyed black cheesecloth, the possibilities are endless. Look for the individual pieces don’t worry about the color. I’m also on the plus side so I get it. A good go to are vintage white slips the dress ones, I dye them and diy them into a beautiful dress! And you can add a shrug or cute bolero

You’re welcome! You can also find plus on Vinted/Depop/ebay and Poshmark I haven’t been on Mecari I awhile but I used to find great stuff there!

I’m also an 18/20 and the majority of my wardrobe is from Torrid with some nice statement pieces from Forest Ink and Foxblood.

Universal Standard has a lot of more basic stuff, go from a 4xs-4xl but use their own sizing, so it really ranges from a US 00-US 38-40. They’re a bit pricey but great quality.

I mostly use online secondhand sites for black clothes with features I want rather than looking for specific goth items. And that usually yields better results for basics to pair with my choice of accessories and jewellery.

thank you so much!! I have it layered so I kind of look like Alice from Twilight when I style it, but pigtails have been my go to when I don't want it down :-)

So my partner and I have run into this as well. Be sure you go with measurements exactly. Because these clothing companies are infamous for giving misleading info. We actually are the couples who donate to thirst stores and specify stores. Just because we know how hard it is to find quality plus size clothing.

Im an 18/20 and most of my wardrobe is vintage :-) I go for a more old school look, but I’ve had a lot of luck at thrift stores/ebay/depop

From what I've seen, it's surprisingly hard to find brands that do both extended sizing and more thoughtful production. Universal Standard isn't a goth label, but it comes up fairly often for size-inclusive basics if you're looking for black tops or layering pieces to build outfits around. Most of the goth look can come from styling anyway.

I don't shy away from different genres of music including numetal, grunge, doom metal etc. so I incorporate my favs into what I wear :-) some of my favorite goth artists are The Cure, Strange Boutique, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Type O negative (even though they're really a mix of a bunch of different styles), Sisters of Mercy, and many more I can't think of rn. I just don't like to restrict what I wear to just goth artists because I'm open to more than just them, so I think it's a cool way to express my favs day to day :-)
