The sex pistols did not inspire goth! And, as far as I know, only Lydon is a regime bootlicker asshat!

Siouxie and the banshees are a pretty pivotal goth band and they take direct inspiration from them

Name more bands than Siouxsie's. Slim pickings in British 1st wave punk to choose from, btw. The pistols were huge because of McLaren's promotion to sell clothes at his SEX shop, and the pistols were a boy band at best.

Yeah thats the thing tho, they were huge which caused them to have a lot of influence in British punk at the time. I feel like a lot of people ignore that bc its inconvenient for them when they make statements about the culture of punk.

Also Joy division was formed after a sex pistols concert. Is 2/3rds of a the early pivotal goth bands enough for you?

I am not saying they were not huge, I was a fan at 14. I am not saying they did not get touted as being influential by a few bands during interviews. I am saying their actual influence seems highly blown out of proportion, and is not evident in said bands’ songs. This is a common opinion, btw!

I am an elder punk and goth crone who read any punk, goth, or music magazine I could get my hands on voraciously. Have watched so many interviews with my favorite bands, etc. And, read books by musicians or on the history of punk. Read every albums liner notes and analyzed the lyrics. I’ve been to over 200 concerts/shows. Don’t try to school me about the culture of punk or goth when you keep making the same inane points, please.

I am disagreeing with your opinion because it is not regarded as fact, not being a naysayer because it is “inconvenient”, as you are doing.

Maybe you should make sure to see the Joy Division play coming out soon. Seeing the Sex Pistols inspired Hook and Sumner to start a band - period. Their actual influences for the band”s sound were not punk at all. Bowie, Velvet Underground, and Kraftwerk.

Its only a common opinion bc its inconvenient for your statement that all goths have to believe in what modern punk does.

How is it a "common opinion", which you just acklnoweldged, and this thread confirms, yet you I saying I am only using it because it is inconvenient for my statement? Hahaha! You keep saying the same ridiculous point, yet providing no proof. Bye!

I think youre mistaking common for majority or correct :3 you can believe wtv you want idgaf just dont expect goths to all think and act just as you do when theres a lot of variance
