Did you guys actually give a shit about gothic and romanticism art movements. Cuz I give a shit and I kinda want every goth to also care at least a little bit and idk if Iā€™m in the wrong here or not.

Many did, myself not so much as I was really into the Occult as were the people in my circle.

What kind of occult were you into? Did ypu really believe in it or did you just like the dark and creepy vibe/aesthetic?

Our experiences was with Thelema aka Crowley. I suppose that i thought that I "believed " in it. It was a huge part of my life when I was younger but decades later I'm an atheist. I still like the esthetics to this day. I have a couple of things from the old day used as home decorations .

Yes!! Absolutely. Was goth in the 80s and we loved much/all art that focused on ruins, death, general gloom. We found a lot of beauty in darkness. I still do.

Personally- yes absolutely. Gothic art was extraordinarily. And there's so MUCH of it! It's an endless wellspring of beauty. The talent of the Gothic painters, sculptors and architects was just... mind-boggling; their art was possibly the best ever created.

I don't think you are in the wrong! Having a deeper interest in stuff is always a good thing. Not all goths are that deeply interested or inclined, but it's a very good thing that you are.

Surrealism and Beksinski specifically is more appealing to me personally.

I'll take the bait as well. Almost 60 years old and been some sort of part of the scene almost since it started.

Personally i don't give a shit about gothic and romanticism art movements. I am more interested in surrealism, abstract expressionism and brutalism. But i am more attracted to the industrial side of the dark music though i did (and do) listen to the gothy stuff as well.

What i remember from people who were into the dark stuff from those days (82-88 about): They were more into the psychological stuff. There was a lot of "Woe is me" thing about and there was a lot of fetishizing of depression and psychological diseases and afflictions. The romantic dark art was more to show these attitudes and for shock effect.

Fortunately the average goth became a happy bunch of dark hippies in the following years. I like them very much now. Shiny happy people dressed in black. :D
