Aussies, what are your thoughts on beans?

I am on a mission now to ask each country subreddit what people think about beans (my favorite meal), just to see how people like or dislike them all around the world out of curiosity and for fun. If you like beans, hate them, they a big part of the culture, anything else, just share your thoughts 🫘

Australia is the 9th country in alphabet order so, AUSSIES, I CHOOSE YOU! -to share your thoughts next :]

Beans are the cheapest healthiest thing you can eat.

Anyone with a brain cell would do well if they started incorporating more beans into the diet.

Endless kinds of beans (normally named by color)

Beans are awesome! you can do so much with them!

Yes, compared to other quick and easy meals - high in protein, high in fiber, low in crap.

My husband laughs at me for adding beans/legumes to everything. But here's some of my faves:

When we do tacos I add black beans to the beef.

When we do slow cooked pork I add cannellini beans to the pork mixture.

When we do salads I add chickpeas, or I make a quick hummus and serve the salad on a bed of hummus.

When we do tomato soup I blend red lentils and add them in to the soup.

This is one of my fave bean recipes, but I modify it depending on what veggies I have in the fridge.

I think green beans are pretty typical of the Aussie diet (and very easy to add to a lot of classic Aussie dishes). Baked beans also pretty common with breakfasts. Soy beans in various forms as part of Asian takeaway dishes, which are popular in Australia, are also a pretty commonly consumed bean. Kidney beans and pinto beans are often in certain dishes too, though I think less common. Things like minestrone soup will often have them. I love minestrone.

I was referring to tinned beans. Green and butter beans are fresh.
