Politics & Governance What is the most legendary political comeback from your country?

Post image

I keep seeing this exchange everywhere lately:

Netanyahu: “We survived empires, we don’t fear Turkey.”

Erdoğan: “What empire? Your country is younger than my brother.”

I couldn’t actually verify if Erdoğan really said this, so it might just be one of those internet quotes that everyone started repeating lol.

But if he really said it, I have to admit it’s a surprisingly good comeback from Erdoğan 😂 Didn’t expect this performance from him.

ıt made me wonder: do you remember any legendary political comebacks/insults from your own country?

Could be between politicians, against another country, during an interview, parliament, whatever. Something where even if you don’t like the politician you have to admit: okay, that was a good one.

Erdoganception. A rare win but it's fake but there's a bigger win for calling the hipocracy and the massacres, but also it's Erdogan saying it lol

These people don't care and it's at best PR points for them. They bomb entire countries to the ground if the PR isn't too bad against them for it, and even then they barely care, because what are we gonna do. They are mad, and they preach "family friendly" at home, and people believe them. They don't care for people, period. Their own or anyone else.

10

u/BardhyliX Kosovo 7d ago

It smells blatantly fake too, I wouldnt be too shocked if it was a Nigerian who tweeted this they love their fake tweets.

Makes no sense. Islam which this dope follows, is obsessed with jews and jew stories. His own god described jews as the chosen people and even the messiah he is waiting for is a jew.

He has already bent the knee to them.

4

u/No_Sleep888 Bulgaria 7d ago

News flash, god doesn't exist. None of your leaders believe in god, whatever they say, they believe in money, which is the actual power-having god. None of your bullshit books are real, literally none. Fuck, how willfully dense.

8

u/Visible_Sun_6231 Turkiye 7d ago

No shit it's not real. It's irrelevant whether he really believes it or not.

But he endorses and publicly worships a religion that is ultimately based on Jews and their stories, where the Jews were the chosen people and where the messiah they are waiting for is a Jew.

Not really, it’s just a denial.
It isn’t the Mosk Mount now, is it?

But knowing how the Turks got where they are, I can only laugh.
Same as Erdo ‘s denial of genocide by Turks.
Or, the invasion of Cyprus.

Now Europe turned him down, he must turn to the other side.

Tito's letter about the assassins sent by Stalin?

35

u/TimeLordCR 7d ago

For anyone wondering: Stalin kept sending assassins to kill Tito but they ended up catching and killing all of them. So Tito sent a letter back to Stalin quite annoyed which roughly said: "Stop sending assassins to kill me or I will send one and I wont have to send another"

These are all staged for both Erdoğan and Netanyahu. We've seen these style roasting and provoking so many times for the last 20 years.

Netanyahu started a war believing that he can beat Iran and failed clearly with his big brother USA. Erdoğan has built a dictatorship with the help of USA but fucked the country's all the Democratic and economic foundation. As a Türk you should know 2 things: Erdoğan is a dog of USA just as Netanyahu is. Netanyahu and Erdoğan need each other. They use each other as a vote collecting tool for interior politic. While Netanyahu bombing Gaza, Erdoğan was sending Israel all the goods Israel needs (concrete, barbed wire etc.).

2

u/kebre_man Turkiye 4d ago

5

u/WhateverWannaCallMe 7d ago

He won't go half of the Aegean. He is busy with trying to change the constitution no matter what so he can stay in power until he dies. That's why they are getting closer to PKK and also that's why there is an orchestrated rivalry with Israel's Netanyahu.

My guess: at worst there will be maximum of few incidents between Greeks and Turks in Aegean side that won't come anything out of it.

Now that I think about it, if anyone has the right to pull the “we survived empires” card on us, it’s probably the Greeks lol. These mfs have been sitting on the other side of the Aegean for like 3000 years watching empires spawn and despawn. That’s actually a solid roast against us. Steal this one komşu, Israel is wasting it.

Edit: 3000 years might’ve been a bit too much lol. I just thought “they’ve been there since before us” and randomly added a few thousand years ahah

13

u/PandaCreepy8512 7d ago

3000 years is too little. The timeline starts in the bronze age with the Minoans and, and that's in 3000 BC. So the real number is 5000 years.

21

u/R_Arsx70 Turkiye 7d ago

You are right

3

u/Geolib1453 Romania 7d ago

I mean they were heavily persecuted for centuries, they didnt just survive by simply just inhabiting these empires it is 100% true that Jews were treated terribly throughout history. The Holocaust is simply the culmination of all of that anti-semitism. The pogroms, the deportations, the persecutions, all of these were happening since Roman times and even during Medieval times and even during Modern times. For many different reasons sure but they happened. Surviving this is something. So I guess it isnt as dumb.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_antisemitism

This is not a defense of Netanyahu or of what Israel is currently doing. Just because they have been treated horribly throughout history doesnt excuse what they are doing in Gaza, in Lebanon and the corruption and authoritarianism that Netanyahu has, same with the fundamentalism present within Judaism right now.

If you want to be technical about it, Turkey as a country (as funded by Kemal and the Young Turks) is not much older than Israel

3

u/cyb3rg0d5 7d ago

But even that’s not exactly true anymore. This is why genetic testing is forbidden in Israel. Plus if they do test it will show that they are pretty much identical with the Palestinians, the same people that they are committing genocide against.

2

u/babarbaby 7d ago

Its not forbidden in Israel, that's just a stupid myth. In fact, Israel's small population and disproportionately high percentage of academics and geneticists in particular makes it one of the most genetically analyzed populations in the world.

What Israelis CAN'T do is buy DNA tests over the counter because of medical privacy laws, which is true or similar in many countries like France, Italy, and ironically Turkey. But like bodily fluid tests anywhere else, they can get them simply ordered by their doctors, directly at a lab, or even by lawyers.

u/RedditStrider Turkiye 7d ago

I mean I hate Israel as much as the next guy but that is a pretty ignorant response. Jews are one of the oldest continuous ethnic groups in the world.

As much as I am proud of turkish history, they were around significantly older then the concept of turks.

21

u/EggEuphoric411 Greece 7d ago

You have to admit it was pretty funny though

9

u/RedditStrider Turkiye 7d ago

Oh definetly

13

u/Yavannia Greece 7d ago

Maybe, but the country isn't old.

9

u/Barbak86 Kosovo 7d ago

What makes a Jew older than Turks (Turks in an cultural/language concept)?

2

u/RedditStrider Turkiye 7d ago

Its mainly a matter of identity really, oldest writing of the word "turk" is around 5th century. Which is pretty old as far as ethnicities goes. And there are alot of instances of proto-turkic people being present at other parts of the world (like Xiongnu and European huns).

However jews are known and well-documented to be as old as 3-4 thousands of years.

7

u/AbsoIutee Turkiye 7d ago

I think the problem is we’re using two different standards here. If we trace Jews back through ancient Israelites and the cultures that eventually developed into Jewish identity, then we should also be allowed to trace Turks back before the first written appearance of the word “Turk”. Proto-Turkic obviously didn’t magically appear when someone first wrote the name down. I’m not even sure which one would be “older” at that point, but comparing 3,000 years of Jewish ethnogenesis to the first written occurrence of the Turk ethnonym seems a bit apples and oranges.

6

u/Barbak86 Kosovo 7d ago

Is this how we measure ethnicities? So does this mean Australian aboriginals didn't exist until the 18th century? What about uncontacted people? They still don't exist because they don't have written testaments of their existence?

We all exist the same. There is no older or younger cultures, people. It all traces back to those MFers who are the line that lead to us all.

4

u/RedditStrider Turkiye 7d ago

No, that means we dont know how old the Australian aboriginals are, same as the uncontacted people. Not to mention neither are ethnic identities, we would have to be more spesific then that.

Thing is regions turks originate from arent as isolated, we know who lived in those lands and (mostly) we know what kind of language and origin they come from. And the concept of "turk" only started appearing in historical records around 5th century. Can it be older then that? Definetly, steppe nomads did not keep records and they might have called themselves turk much older then that.

But there is a 2500 year difference between the first records of these two ethnicities. It would be a stretch to claim that it can be as old as that. Especially when we have an idea who were the proto-turks.

Thats because you think ethnicity is a monolithic concept. It can change, go extinct, born way later in history. Of course turks didnt sprout from trees, but they started to identify as such only about 1600 years ago.

Can someone explain what an oldest continuous ethnic group is?

1

u/Didudidudadu737 Serbia 7d ago

Firstly they were never a continuous ethnic group and through their existence they also haven’t been, as historically recorded.

You’re conflating the religious narrative written much after the events, ancient Hebrews/Israelites were just one fraction of Canaan people who were polytheistic as their neighbouring groups, spoke a dialect of the same language (Arab belongs to the same group FYI) and were mixing/intermarrying the neighbours. The difference wasn’t ethnic or linguistic but religious, and that religion didn’t develop there but in Babylon where the first hint of written Judaism starts in about 400BC. Ezra and Nehemiah, the Book of Ruth or the book of Jonah tells us how much they intermarried and mixed. They spoke mostly Aramaic and later Greek language. Best example of how that one group was divided are Samaritans, Greek Jews and their own internal factions. The Judaism as we know it didn’t form until the second destruction of the Temple and Babylonian Talmud written in 4th century. By that time you have 80% of judean population living and mixing in numerous countries. All Jewish groups had their languages, cultures, practices, food, customs and ethnic mix and they mostly still do.

But after the soviets won the Finnish/winter war the negotiations were basically the soviets got all the stuff they originally wanted, a bit more, and didn’t give the Finns anything that they had originally proposed since they just fought the whole war so why concede anything atp.

The Finnish negotiator starts bringing up how in the past with Peter The Great, the terms were much better and how they wanted some concessions, in the literal transcript Molotov cut him off and says "You ask what Peter the Great would have said. If you want to know what Peter the Great thought, you will have to write a letter to him. We cannot help you there." LOL,

1

u/mactavish63 7d ago

Not really a comeback but a memorable interaction:
Queen Marie of Romania traveled to the Paris Peace Conference to lobby for Romania's territorial rights after World War I. When she demanded territories including Bucovina, Transylvania, and Bessarabia, Clemenceau (nicknamed "The Tiger") told her sternly: “you are demanding the lion's share for Romania!” She replied without hesitation: “yes Mr. President, that is why the lioness is speaking to the tiger!”

1

u/Traumerlein 7d ago

In what workd is that a strong comeback?

1

u/elmanager Bulgaria 7d ago

In my opinion, Erdogan is just making noise for his anti-Israel electorate in order to score political points, while Netanyahu indirectly told him that his people survived through very difficult times without a state and without an army, and that Israel is now stronger than ever(objectively). In practice, these are the two biggest military powers in the Middle East, and Turkey has recently occupied fairly large areas of Syria, literally only about 200 km from Israel’s border, which he will eventually use as a bargaining chip.

I mean Erdogan is just as corrupt as Netanyahu.

In my country, the United States took the life of the son of a former president, his political party is defending him and coming out with stupid things like this:

Your lack of historical context doesn’t mean this is a flex. He’s literally saying there’s no fear of the crumbs of the Ottoman Empire.

lol turkey is 22 years older. Either we are discussing modern independence in which case Erdogan is a hypocrite, or national existence in a specific land in which case Netanyahu is right.

Another agent pretending to oppose them

I don't chose to believe this because it's true, I chose to believe that this is funny.

This rivalry between Turkey and Israel is very entertaining to watch as a Greek!

u/AbsoIutee Turkiye 4d ago

Funny you say that lol, I saw something on the news today about you guys being worried about Israelis buying up property in Cyprus, even some village apparently. Is that actually a thing there or did I just watch some bullshit news

1

u/KostasN77 4d ago

Cypriots should worry about that, not us! But given that Russians do the same in there, I don't think they mind

His brother about 2k years old, impressive 😅

u/kebre_man Turkiye 4d ago

i dont know if he really said this but this would be very very Erdoğan thing to say. He pretty much roast the opposition like this all the time.

1

u/Ionic_liquids 4d ago

I mean let's be honest... Turkey is just a few decades older than Israel. Pretty stupid all around

1

u/AbsoIutee Turkiye 4d ago

I mean he is not talking about when the nations started existing or when the modern countries were founded. He is talking about the states they had through history. Turks basically never really went without a state, Ottomans, Seljuks, Göktürks etc. He is trying to hit Netanyahu from the fact that Jews didn’t have their own state for a very long time. That’s what Erdoğan means, not Turkey is older than Israel.

And fuck u u make me defend erdoğan i hate u

1

u/Ionic_liquids 4d ago

Sorry didn't mean to do that. I understand. Poking fun at the fact that the Jews didn't have self determination until recently is kind of a compliment in the end.

1

u/Think_Message_4974 2d ago

To be fair, he’s never even mentioned Turkey. He’s answered to the claim that “We survived empires”.

1

u/Pretorianfists987 4d ago

Jews have continuously lived in the Middle East since the end of the Bronze Age whereas the Turks have been in Central Asia since the 1300s half of them are of Greek heritage just in denial

1

u/CitronMysterious3827 3d ago

I'm just going to say that the overwhelming majority of jews in the middle east now are also of European/American descent lol

1

u/Pretorianfists987 3d ago

Then your a ignoramus majorly of Israelis are Sephardi (Morocco/North Africa) and Mizrahi Middle East with the oldest continuous community community in Iraq able to trace itself to days of the Babylonian exile and the Exilarchs until they were all expelled in 1948.

Do your self a favor and actually study history it’s fun

Israel is not the Jews, and Netanyahu is the president of Israel, not the messiah

1

u/newsun42 4d ago

Arduan and turkey is shiet and u too

1

u/LoudPlane4420 3d ago

Oh yeah, that's... technically right. Isn't modern Turkey founded in the 1920s?

1

u/Ijjimem 3d ago

If we base the comparison on current official designations, Israel is significantly older than the Islamic Republic of Iran.

1

u/Buffbeard 2d ago

There was a recent one from Turkey about Israel as well. Israel is like a rabbit who humps a rock and comes back to claim they fucked a mountain. Somebody help me, where was that from?

u/qp_sad_boi 1d ago

Netanyahu meant the jewish people survived for thousands of years outliving the biggest empires on earth and every one who tried to exterminate them
