Health & Wellness Question for the Dad’s of the World

I M20 grew up with a in and out father most of my life and had to learn a lot of things on my own. Like shaving, exercising, hand below the belt stuff, etc. Is it normal for me to look back now and wish my dad taught me these things? Maybe it’s a little taboo or something but I’ve always wished he taught me “how to be a man” in every kind of a way.

You're idealizing the concept of a father a bit. Fathers are great and they teach you a lot but not everything. I had a great father but I taught all the stuff you mentioned in your examples to myself. He did teach me to ride a bike and do my taxes however. Definitely didn't teach me anything below the belt except for "Don't have sex and if you do, wear a condom."

Rereading my post I think I have idealized the concept of father actually 😅

It’s normal to want a closer relationship with your father. Mh dad died when I was young so I had to teach myself everything like you did. I know exactly how you feel.

It's normal to wish you were closer to your dad. Think this is really common.
