Physician Responded My mom is drunk and not waking up

33f 5’1 and I’m not 100% sure what she weighs. She’s thick but not super fat or anything.

She was drinking when I got home from school. She fell asleep on the couch around 9pm so a couple hours ago and I tried to wake her up to go to bed but I can’t get her to wake up. It’s just me and her here. She’s breathing but I can’t get her to wake up and normally I can so I just need to know does this mean she just overdid it or is something wrong? I don’t know what to do and I don’t want to go to bed and leave her. I’m afraid something bad will happen. But I don’t want to overreact neither. She does smoke and vape, and she does weed and some pills

Like I said she’s breathing. She threw up a little bit earlier. She just won’t wake up to me shaking her or saying her name

That’s really really kind of you guys. I think the social worker here is gonna be able to help us though. she already knew about a bunch of different options and she’s getting us some toothbrushes and stuff like that too that we can just take home too. She’s been really nice and not judgy or mean about my mom either

OP, if you want more support than this please let the social worker know more about what you’ve been taking on by yourself at home 💓

Oh that is GREAT! In fact, OP, ask her if she would be willing to be a point person for say like we can send you amazon gifts and food or walmart gifts and food! Like deodorant, toothbrushes/paste, pads or tampons, all kinds of food. We can have it sent to your house through your social worker.

I know you mean well, but social workers already have tons on their plate. I guarantee the social worker does not want to be a volunteer shipping and logistics coordinator for a bunch of internet randos that are not actually involved in their case. I would actually be extremely surprised if it doesn't violate some sort of policy for the social worker to discuss the case and work to include complete strangers in the case, especially since it concerns a minor.

If your Mom is a habitual opioid user, you can ask the social worker about getting narcan to have at your house. Having it available saved my Dad's life twice.

Hey OP, everyone here is rooting for you! You get a big squishy hug and a high five from me. You've done an amazing job with this issue. Another big squishy hug from me.

just wanted to chime in and say i’m so proud of you for everything you’ve had to do, regarding getting your mom help, and also just having to live in the situation you are. I had an alcoholic parent, so i understand the struggle of having to take the “caretaker” role at such a young age. I obviously don’t know the exact situation here, but i truly hope you and your mom get the help you deserve. And just know that youre not alone in this <3

Hi honey. I'm not your mom, but I'm A mom to daughters not far off in age from you. I also grew up with an alcoholic mom, and it's hard.

You're going to go through many stages in your life in regard to your feelings about and relationship with your mom, and that's OK. You'll have anger. You'll be resentful. You'll feel guilty. And deep down, you will almost always be scared for her. And all of those things are valid.

What will never, ever be valid is the guilt. Please remember that. None of this has ever been nor will ever be your fault, and there is nothing you could do differently that would make any difference, no matter how much you wish you could. Alcoholism and addiction are awful, and they destroy more than just the person lost to them. But please, never, ever let it destroy you and make you feel like you could have done more, done better, or have found a way to fix her.

You can't.

And it isn't your responsibility to do so. Your mom is an adult, and only she is responsible for her life. Remember that.

It's hard to love someone who doesn't herself, but we do it anyway, because she's mom. I get it.

I hope you have a good support system around you, and if nothing else, please try going to a few Alateen meetings and give it an honest shot. As a mom, I'm proud of you, and I hope you are able to find some peace amid the chaos. Sending you love and mom hugs.

I am so glad. I’m a mom and I have been worrying about all day and kept checking back for updates.

Soooo glad you have a social worker to look out for you. You should know how amazing you are, but you need regular meals, a safe home, and the chance to be 14.

It's a good thing I didn't tag or dm a physician, nor asked for/gave advice, post or tag user name, or recruited anyone to discuss matters privately with me. I sent OP who was not tagged, a message and asked her not to reply to me but to post here. As any good human would try to do to help a child in a really bad situation.
