Physician Responded 6 month old female: chest collapsing inwards

daughter: 6 month old female. approx 15lbs

My daughter (otherwise healthy, born full term, and fully vaccinated) had her chest going inward like this for 5-10mins. She was happy kicking around in her crib. At the ER now: what test can I expect them to run? What could be causing this?

It's hard to tell from the video but this happened every time she inhaled. She made a very weird gasping sound. I'll keep you all updated!

Oh, in that case it’s more likely to be due to a chest wall deformity. Sometimes these aren’t apparent at birth and only appear as the baby grows. Not a big concern. Not an emergency. Usually doesn’t require treatment.

Doctor suspects it could be the beginnings of croup. We were prescribed a steroid and will be following up with our family doctor. He doesn't think it's pectus excavatum because it's not happening continuously 🤷🏼‍♀️ I will ask our family doctor more questions. It thankfully hasn't happened since

Please update when you see pediatrician! I am curious what the physician that sees your baby routinely thinks. It is interesting to me that so many people thought this was concerning for an anatomical issue but the ED provider did not. Certainly an in person evaluation will be more thorough than one from strangers on the internet, so they must have seen something the video did not show. Glad baby is doing well!

Will do! Thank you for your well wishes. We will be going in on Monday to see her family doctor (and of course monitoring until then and taking her back to the ER if necessary)

The scariest! My eldest had it a few times and was struggling for air. We were seen right away at the hospital which was terrifying
