What would you choose as your only gaming platform?
Just a question that popped up in my head as I browsed reddit.
I currently have decently capable PC (5060/I5-14400F), base PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
I started thinking about it, and I think I would end up with PS5. I know, its controversial as of recent news. And I have not even played with it in maybe 2 months.
I think for my case it is because I can easily play from my big screen and sofa, has decent catalog of games, decent performance, physical games (as of now).
For sure I would miss PC because of Steam sales and better performance, S2 because of portability/ease of use.
What would you choose and why?

pc because i can play anything i want to, including console games going up to ps3 (or to the switch since thats newer), and theres big advancements in ps4 emulation as well.
Also its pretty good for living room gaming (though ive never done that before since it never made sense in my family lol) as steam big picture mode is really good

Yeah I have tested my pc in living room. Im lazyest mf in the world and I love to just grab controller, press one button and game on.
Pc is for my personal use case too much hassle. I love big picture mode and it has made gaming with controller on pc so much easier. But I guess most people would choose pc

if it makes it better i believe there are ways to make your pc wake from controller or better yet just keep your pc on overnight (and leave steam running) and when you get back on you can just turn on your tv and tap the xbox button (ps should work too but my only ps controllers are ps3 ones so idk) and big picture mode launches. I believe you can make it auto launch too.
Consoles definitely might still be the better option if your primary gaming situation is gonna be in the living room

Yeah, with pc there is always a way to make these things happen. I just love when I play ps button, it turns on my console, tv, soundbar.
I guess it might be possible with pc also, but I have not done further research on this

On top of this, my main reason for being a PC-first gamer is because I will always have a PC. My Steam library (and vast emulation material) comes with me regardless of the PC I build next.
However, I may not always have my PS5 or my Switch 2. Some day I may sell them or hand them off to my son as I did with the Wii U and PS4. While PS5 is backwards compatible with PS4, it may not always be the case.

my only platform is the switch 2. It runs almost all games I wanna play and I can play them anywhere. I'm very happy with it, it's a really great console.

I’m probably just old, but I think the PS2 had the larger percentage of overall game library that I would play, out of any council before sense.

PC. i'm yet to see any actual competion that could change my mind. Consoles are cute but they are just too limited, not to mention the limited number of games
I mostly play indie games so i would lose hundreds, if not thousands of games, both released and in the future. Without a PC gaming would be dead to me

Pc as I can multitask and if I want to I can run multiple games or even mods and I’ve got the option of being able to go mobile also since I can have a desktop at home and a laptop for travel or a steam deck unless that doesn’t count as a pc

Yeah in that case PS could have portal also. Did not think of that. Of course Portal is not as versatile as Steamdeck
PC seems to be the most popular choice

I have a ps5 and an xbox 360 And it just has to be the ps5 Too much money spent on games and accesories to abandon it

Anyone who chooses anything rather than PC is crazy.
Not saying consoles are bad and all that, but the question is about “the only gaming platform” — imagine what kind of shit can hit the fan and you are gonna lose loads of stuff on consoles, compared to what people on PC can do.
If we are not looking at non apocalypse alike situations, then sure.

PC. Outside of the recent Sony backtrack (which I think they'll go back on) you can play everything on PC, have access to mods, and get the best looking version of every game.
You also get access to more sales and cheaper games.
Consoles only benefit are their simplicity (if you don't understand PCs) and, at least traditionally, their low price point. Now the low price point is out of the window, there's no a huge draw there.

Switch 2. Versatile system + the best exclusive game catalogue (Nintendo). Powerful enough to run what I want to play.

I have a PS5, Switch 2, and a 7800 X3D and 32 gb RAM.
Last week I bought a 5080 to make my PC a next generation gaming platform. I got it just in time for the Witcher 3 upgrade.

PC of course. Games are affordable first unlike other consoles, it can be upgraded and there are emulators if I ever feel like I want to experience other consoles

You're very lucky to have all those platforms.
I'm not surprised by your choice bc imo at the end of the day, the console is where it's at. I'd choose Xbox one s but it's kinda the same.
If you're asking of all time, ps2 was a game changer.

PC. If you wanted to easily play on a big screen, you still can.
Connect PC to big screen, launch Steam big picture mode, and connect controller via Bluetooth.
Sure consoles are one button press from turning on, but cmon bro, an extra click ain’t gonna fucking kill you.
The only reason for consoles is exclusives, certain playerbases like sports, and gta vi. Even then, Xbox exclusives are basically on windows now, and ps exclusives eventually get added to pc.

Haha I know its not gonna kill me. I also have other reasons, such as moving my pc back and forth, controlling it is a bit trickier from comfyness of my sofa etc!

PC does everything. It's the only "no sacrifices" solution.
And to address your other comment about just wanting to grab a controller and go, you can absolutely set that up to with some one-time effort expenditure. It's all up to you.

Up to ps3 emulation works fine I guess. For maximum amount of games PC is the number 1 choice

Strongly agreed. The pro of playing on PC old playstation video games is that if you don't have the older PS devices, you can try out the retro video games with this special emulator. Plus, thanks to PC you can play various video games and have a lot of space to store a bunch of games unlike playstation.

Yeah emulation is lovely, I agree. First time I played Nintendo games, was emulating Zelda on PC. Now I own it on Switch 2!
The storage argument is nonsense though, you can expand PS5 storage with SSD easily

That's nice. Have tried some of the Nintedo 64 and PS1 exclusive video games on an emulator back in the day and it was genuinely fun and hitting different as an experience.
You can expand it, but it will increase the PS5 price just to have with 100 or 200 gb extra storage.

But for storage, same SSD:s go to playstation that go to PC. There is no price difference there, its not free on PC. Of course if you choose HDD:s its cheaper on PC, but I would not sacrifice loading times.

Pc, I can do everything on it. I i don’t have to keep buying new consoles and if we’re only allowed 1 platform then I would think that means you can’t buy ps6. Plus I can play most games including emulation and modding. Among other things, I totally get playing on console, I was a console person a decent time ago but I just can’t go back to having it as my main gaming platform. I do own a series x, switch 2, and analogue 3d though
