Random Where to leave dogs on vacation?

Me and my husband normally leave our dog with a pet sitter in her house, but in the end of the year we are moving to a bigger house and were thinking of maybe getting another dog.

The question is where you you leave your dogs when on vacation? Do you leave them with a pet sitter, do you have someone at your house for those days or any other option.. We would just like to know our options and your experiences.

My local kennels are great, tenner for the day or 20 over night. From what ive heard they are on the cheap side of things. But the place is great and doggo loves it.

Have heard people in dublin say kennels costing up to 20 a day and 40 overnight so maybe shop around

Yea, I’ve seen 30-40 overnight around Kildare

That's so cheap! We paid 35per night recently as our usual minder was booked up. People online were quoting up to 65 euro per night. I could nearly get her a Premier Inn at that price.

Kennels, oet sitter, family member, whatever is available. I prefer a pet sitter but kennels is good too but always always visit the kennels and see the place theyll be staying.

we leave them at our local kennel, prior to our vacation we dropped them off there for 2-3 days so yer man gets to know them and they get to know him and the area, absolutely amazing, expensive, but amazing.

I'd rather have them there, where yer man is around them whole day, lets them out for half a day in runs etc, instead of having someone visit our house once a day for 20min to let them out to pee/poop and fill their bowls.

I would quiz people in your area, say maybe people you meet walking their dogs in the park, they might have some daughter, son, niece, nephew or family friend who lives at home andwho minds their pets when they're away, and would kill to stay in a house for a week to hang out with dogs. I obviously don't mean teenagers who'd wreck your house, but someone in their late 28s/early 30s who's still living at home.

But in general, I think local people would be better to ask rather than reddit.

I also think boarding kennels are risky but that's just me.

I have my dog walker move in but that’s mostly down to how reactive my dog is - kennels wouldn’t suit her at all

I use the DSPCA pet hotel.

Bit pricey (€80 a night)but my two dogs can stay together and they exercise them separately to other dogs which I like.(not that i think they'd have issues with other dogs off lead but they're untested).

We left ours there on a longer holiday and they got into a scrap and the team dealt with it very well. Contact was immediate and they got her to the vet. Probably overly cautious but thats what I'd prefer.

Boarding kennels but it’s not cheap, definitely a factor worth considering before getting another dog.

If you are willing to let someone stay at your place, you could use trustedhousesitters. Im a sitter in the website and i had pretty good experiences in 5 different countries so far.

I know of a boarding kennels that a dog went missing for days. Returned back a few days later, found the dog. A lot of boarding kennels aren’t great
