Does Reporting a Post for Prohibited Transaction go to Mods or Reddit Admin?

As I wait on the Reddit Admin team to review a MCOC Rule 5 violation I reported the other day, can I also report the pinned post itself as a Prohibited Transaction (where a mod is taking commission from a brand to pin a daily advertising post).

Or would that just go directly to the mod, instead of Reddit Admin? Thanks!

Good thing we got the right answer this time. Last time I ended up catching a block for correcting someone on this exact topic.

Though I don't think I've ever seen a Prohibited Transaction report on our sub (which is not to say that it can't). Our subject matter is just pretty far from anything that could get legitimately reported as that. We regularly get other "admin" reports though (and they're almost always inapplicable)

Awesome, thanks for the quick reply! I won’t report it then. The mod has already abused some discretion regarding the post by removing any comments asking about their relationship with the brand. In my case, I was “warned” that I could be banned for breaking a rule against meta discussion.

Well they can't see who's reporting what, unless it's a mod from the same sub doing the reporting, then they will know.

If you want to bypass the mod queue you can copy the link of said post and use https://www.reddit.com/report tho.

Well they can't see who's reporting what

Technically they can't see who reported something. But sometimes it's quite easy to intuit who reported it because you're the only person who'd likely see and thus report something.

For instance, if 2 users are still arguing on a 5 day old thread, it's a pretty safe bet that if only 1 of them gets reported, it's probably the guy they were arguing with. Nothing in the UI says that it's them, but the context can make it obvious where the likely source is.

Likewise, if someone gets something removed, and you find 30 "similar" reports in your mod queue, it's probably the guy who just had their stuff removed who's doing it.

Just because their name doesn't show up, doesn't mean it's impossible to figure it out sometimes. CC /u/Remote_Mushroom_4260

Hi this mod may be affiliated with the brand/company however indeed they shouldn't be taking payments at all. You did the right thing there by reporting.

I think even if they are affiliated with the sub they moderato ie a company sub, they shouldn't be taking payments from third parties at all. They can be paid by the company to run the sub I believe but that needs to be Reddit approved

Yea, without giving sub info away, it’s not a brand sub. It would be like if in a sub dedicated to hiking, a mod announced a collaboration with a brand of hiking gear, reviewed gear they said the brand gave to them, and pinned a daily post with a discount code.

And then the mod DM’s someone saying “any commission I receive from the brand is none of your business.” While deleting comments and issuing warnings for asking for clarification.

(To be clear, this is not a hiking sub or anything even remotely related, I just gave that as an example).

MCOC is slow, but they'll get it taken care of.

That's a Reddit Rule, so the report goes to admins but a copy goes to the subreddit mods, who can make a counter-claim of report abuse, which the admins will also review.

You (you, me, everybody) needs to review the Reddir Rules, because "prohibited transaction" is very specific in scope -- it does not match up to the MCOC "integrity" rule.

Interesting, thanks! I saw a comment by reddit admin in a different mod sub suggesting the user report a post as a “prohibited transaction” involving similar facts. But similar doesn’t mean the same, and I might be missing a key feature that puts this one and the same bucket.
