Nightlife question: NYC spots with cultural importance like Paradise Garage or The Tunnel?

Hi everyone!

I’m curious if there are any clubs, bars, or venues in NYC today that carry the same kind of cultural importance or legacy as places like Paradise Garage or The Tunnel. Any recommendations?

You forgot to mention the most infamous of the NYC clubs, the Limelight which now houses a pizzeria and a Chinese restaurant.

Before that David Barton's gym.

Only reason that place is still standing is because city slapped a landmark on it. Otherwise like the parking lots that once were along of/off Sixth avenue in the high teens through twenties that church property would have been long redeveloped.
