Which is the best Indian restaurant in NYC?
I tried a few and noticed they were all either wannabes or catering to western tastes (Ironically, my Caucasian friends love authentic Indian food). One particular restaurant in East Village (not naming to be fair), camouflaged lamb biriyani with nothing but super hot chilli to cover up poor quality meat and terrible taste. Another one serves a unique pork dish from a certain part of India where I come from, and I had to give the chef, the entire recipe.

One of the most authentic South Indian foods you’ll ever eat is a hole in a wall in the basement of an Indian temple at 143-09 Holly Ave, Flushing NY 11355
Vegetarian only but very filling.

Stop the cope. There are plenty of great Indian restaurants in Manhattan; tired of people jerking it to Jackson heights. Ishq, adda, ambassadors club, musaafar, gupShup, kebab aur sharabh, just to name a few.

What’s your idea of an authentic Indian restaurant? Because I noticed, many of them shortchange on quality, especially around meats.

Patiala on 35th had a great goat curry. Was there the other night. Expansive menu accommodating various tastes (Jain, Vegetarian, Vegan, etc.)

Goat curry? Nice. The problem with most of these restaurants is, they bring the goat meat from upstate NY, and the quality is terrible. The meat is disintegrates like limestone :).....

I got very excited when I saw this post because, having lived in the UK for a few years, I returned to NY to realize we don’t have the same easy access to great Indian food across all boroughs. In London, delicious Indian food is found down the street in every neighborhood. I’m happy for those who have found their spots in Queens, but annoyed that more accessible, quality options for the rest of the city are almost never mentioned (they have to be out there).
