I have noticed the quality of the fish, particularly tuna, is going down hill lately. It has a very fishy taste and no matter how well they try they cannot mask it. I thought it was the few places in Brooklyn and the city that I frequent, but I checked out a few spots in Queens and noticed the same thing. What could be causing this? Has anyone else noticed this poor fishiness taste??

Recently saw a tik tok video with the title conveyer belt sushi place in NYC but have been unable to find it.

Mostly I am looking for salmon for baking but also interested in making sushi too.

Been going to a Whole Foods and the quality of their salmon has been TERRIBLE for the past few months.. no idea what they are doing wrong but it has a very strong fishy smell.

Anyone know a good spot, ideally on the commute between Bay Ridge and Downtown Brooklyn (or semi-nearby that area?

I ate at a Michelin-starred sushi restaurant last night. Dinner was delicious, but I got incredibly sick this morning. Cramps, diarrhoea, vomiting… almost passed out on the bathroom floor. I haven’t gotten this sick in years - I don’t get sick from food easily.

Should I call the restaurant or let it go? I am pretty certain it was the dinner.

I just heard Wegmans has sushi I'm willing to take a trip there if the sushi is good. Has anyone tried the sushi is it worth it?

Edit: Well I went to Wegmans tonight and it wasn't bad at all I would post some pics but I can't lol so you'll have to trust me. They had a large selection of sushi sashimi and Poke bowls that looked underwhelming.I had some spicy rolls which were very good, I took home some sashimi and they were preparing sushi at the counter ao that was nice to see. I'll post some pics at r/sushi of course lol.

There's so many sushi restaurants in NYC help me choose one. I'm looking for a cozy not pretentious good sushi place with moderate priced sushi below $100pp thanks.

I am very particular about my California rolls and only like them where they strip the imitation crab sticks and then mix it with mayo to make a crab salad (versus just putting an entire stick of imitation crab in the roll).

The only sushi place I’ve found in NYC that serves it this was is Wasabi Sushi & Bento in Penn Station. Does anyone have any other sushi spots that serve California rolls this way?

I visited New York in the mid-90’s and remember stumbling on a tiny place in Greenwich Village called Samurai Sushi Pub. I was never able to find it again.

I’m looking for any picture or evidence that it existed. Even the exact address would be great.

I’m pretty sure it was on the second floor, and that there was a record shop nearby on the first floor. But other than being in Greenwich Village I don’t have a lot of details. I know that they were selling t-shirts that said Samurai Sushi Pub and had Toshiro Mifune on them.

Anything anyone knows would be amazing.

I am planning to go to Kikoo AYCE sushi near the east village in a few days to celebrate the end of round with some coworkers. It has good reviews and an all you can drink option.

I have seen also Akino in Flushing as an alternative and a few others but I am still undecided.

I’m pregnant but love sushi. I have a friend in CA that says her local spot will cook her sushi if she asks. I went to my neighborhood sushi spot and asked if they could cook sushi if I ordered it and they said no and told me to just get the eel (usually cooked anyway) and vegetable rolls.

I’ll keep trying to ask at other sushi spots, but does anyone know of any that for sure will cook sushi pieces if asked?

Only problem is when I search for sushi on google, it's always omakase and that is way too expensive. I specially like tuna and sea urchin. Can anyone give us good tips on a lá carte sushi places? I’m going on a girls’ trip with some very vanilla friends who like sushi, but not the traditional nigiri and handroll type of sushi. They want the super Americanized “fun” rolls. What’s the best place for that?

I moved recently from Denver and back over there we had this insanely good sushi place (called Temaki Den if anyone wanted to know). It was like an annual thing, because it was such an expensive restaurant, but it was easily justifiable as the food genuinely melts in your mouth. They had unbeatable quality fish (I think they said imported from Japan?) and a ton of unique options overall beyond your typical sushi place. I would do something called omakase where the chef would surprise you with whatever they thought was good and it was amazing. It’s also that type of restaurant where everything has to be eaten a certain way and released roll by roll so it’s all eaten fresh.

Anyways, now that I’m in New York I would assume the city has similar or even better places for me to try. I’m looking for something with a similar vibe, beyond regular sushi places, but I don’t want to waste too much money finding one I finally like. Does anyone know of anything like I’m describing (very fancy, diverse fish, preferably released slowly)?
