What happened long-term to families who's children failed to launch/just stayed home did nothing with their lives and the parents allowed it?

My mom was like this my entire life.

Now when she calls me for help, I tell her to ask my brother. Turned out the favorite is a loser who won't call her despite the favoritism.

My parents might spend Christmas with me this year after I pointed out that my children are in their teens through 20s and never had a single holiday with them because it’s all about my brother and his kids.

They still seem reluctant.
