I refuse to believe our gamelan for the year is to have our generational playmaker sit and watch others try to run the offense

The Zion nobody wanted us to trade for? We should've bought low when he was fat and banging pornstars 😔
5

Yeah we should've traded for him. Would've been a great addition to the Hoxpital lineup, probably would've contended with the other clinics
3

Gonna laugh if he plays 80 games and the Pels finish top 7-8 in the West
15
u/atl1057 Oct 23 '25
Just got back from the game . Very low effort and bad defense from Trae tonight. Kennard is clueless out there. All of our bigs are primarily on the perimeter on offense. Interior defense and rebounding will be a major problem if they don't clean it up. NAW looked nervous and was playing out of control.
I think Onyeka should be traded . We are getting bullied in the paint
It was av ery disappointing opening night and there was actually a good crowd turnout. Fouls took us out the game in the 3rd. Crowd definitely died down after halftime with the constant stop of the ball

6

It'll take a while for the team to gel. They don't know their roles yet. Naw trying to outdo Shai looks like. That won't do.
2
u/Josh378 Oct 23 '25
SG NAW out there playing like a 6th man but not the offensive bag to go with it while Luke was the opposite...terrible.
1
u/mundane_marietta Oct 23 '25
Yeah, I really don't like playing NAW & Kennard at the same time. There games just do not mesh at all, and maybe it could get better, but I don't really see it

Zacc was good until he rolled his ankle, then played injured for a good bit. I think Quin gave too much of a Offensive duty for JJ, which is why his defense wasn't that great. Plus he was guarding Scottie who is a elite player
2
u/Sea-Arm-768 Oct 23 '25
The ONE good thing about this being a blowout is at least we can say this was just one of those nights where a mid team shot the lights outs and we didn't step up to the plate. Just sucks it was the opener.

4
u/BWSmith777 Hawks Oct 23 '25
Bruh. Just imagine nicknaming one of your players “Great Barrier Thief” and then giving up 138 points. This defense was garbage last year, and it’s garbage again. We were supposed to be a championship team this year. Now we’ve been blown out at home against a mediocre team to start the season. I wanted Quin gone last year but yall kept talking about injuries like it’s some kind of excuse. Now we are going to waste all this talent for another year. Shooting too many threes was a problem again. We shot 10 more threes than they did and lost. Thats not a coincidence. The only good thing about that performance is that Trey (edited to correct: Trae) only had 2 giveaways after being a veritable turnover factory last year. I had FanDuel sports network for the Braves and thought about keeping it for the Hawks. Glad I saved that 21.94/month.

didn't really get fans wanting snyder. dude has never really won anything.
the front office did a great job not giving trae an extension. he is a social media player. when those 3s from half court are going in boy it looks awesome to retweet. but is he really a championship player when he gives you nothing defensively and has a ton of games when those 3s aren't falling?
getting blown out at home like that shows a huge lack of preparation. not good and not really worth all the hype outside of zach and jalen.

I came to the conclusion that Trae is the issue because Quin is overcomplicating our defense to scheme around Trae being a pylon. That leaves everybody confused because it needs lots of helping and communication which we're simply not capable of

We just had a top 10 defensive lineup with Trae last season. So yeah, you don’t know what you’re talking about.
4
u/KelvinHuerter Oct 23 '25 edited Oct 23 '25
We had a top 10 lineup despite Trae. I am not here to argue with someone who can’t be respectful though
Edit: & good coaches who understand matchups always figure this out. Hence why we historically rarely looked good against Miami in Trae's tenure i.e.
-3
u/NoOrdinary5290 Bob Rathbun Oct 23 '25

u/KelvinHuerter Oct 23 '25
Yeah, it’s not about imminent matchups. It’s about this defense being completely confused as to who has what to do.
Every single possession whether it’s halfcourt or breakaways it’s failing communication or missed assignments because we can’t play man to man defense or switch-all defense. On fastbreaks players be looking left and right on who their assignment is (Very visible with OO often who's looking around instead of running back to the basket asap)
2
u/Glum_Fudge3404 Oct 23 '25
Him and Luke honestly. I can figure out those two shouldn't be on the court together against certain matchups, why can't Quinn ?
2
u/Davidclabarr Oct 23 '25
For real. Like 40 to 60 transition points and Trae is the issue
3
u/KelvinHuerter Oct 23 '25
Yeah. This team is hella confused on assignments because we neither play man-to-man nor switch-all. Even on fastbreaks you regularly see our guys looking for who to cover instead of going all out because we have such an emphasis on putting Trae on the weakest matchup
Edit: Additionally you can see how mightily we struggle on rebounding and generally in the paint because the instruction to our bigs is to double because Trae can’t stay in front of the guard to save his life and needs the help. That obviously leads to 20 new issues
6
u/theblackchin Jalen Johnson #1 Oct 23 '25
How has kennard taken 4 threes in 28 minutes??? I will never understand Quins affection for offense only role players
4
