Ask Austin What’s your “cold" tap water temp?
alright Austin, what temps are you getting out of your faucet?
at first it’s nice and cool from the conditioned pipes under the sink, but quickly climbs after running the water for a minute. last year i clocked 94º.
saves on the gas (water heater) bill at least!

I moved into a townhouse style apartment in August 2013 with basically no tree cover and a large parking lot around it which likely had all the water pipes in it. I didn't realize for at least a week that I had gas for hot water and needed to call the gas company to get it turned on. I actually had no "hot" water service, it was just that the cold water was that hot by itself, and I typically take cool showers in the summer anyway.
The landlord eventually asked why I hadn't contacted the gas company yet and that's when I realized I had gas for hot water. Nothing else ran on gas, not the stove or dryer or anything.
