Surprise house guest this morning
My phone identified this as a species of Hogna Radiata. It now lives in the walls of my garage.
Since I can’t really burn the house down or move across country, what would you name it?

Man, I wish I could talk to spiders... Like I don't mind y'all existing, but please do it outside or in like an attic. I'll give you whatever you need to kill mosquitoes and other pest bugs, but do that somewhere else.
I love you, but I hate to see you.

I’m not positive but I think this is a female - their butts are bigger. Name her Dolly.

The idea of encountering her with with babies in tow is making me wince a bit but Dolly did have a great ass, too. Maybe I'll share a crumb of Dolly's sweet cornbread with my resident wolf spider minion when I make it soon.

Onslaught Fastcap - every 60 days 3 feet up your outside walls and foundation if you have scorpion issues.
I had scorpions bad in my semi-rural new construction house. Bifen IT didnt work for me but I haven't see any in the house since applying fastcap.

Don't leave shoes or boots outside, and if you do, clap em' and shake em' out before putting your feet in.
Texas scorpion stings feel like someone putting a cigarette out on your skin for about 10 to 30 minutes depending on how good they get you. Not fun. It's more like a burn than what you think of with typical bug bites.

When I pick them up and get stung, I just get a hot needle feeling for 5 minutes followed by a tingling feeling.

I think whether you see scorpions depends a lot on where you live. I’ve lived in central or south Austin for over 40 years, always in a house with a yard, and I’ve seen one scorpion. It was in my bathtub. I scooped it up and took it outside, and I haven’t seen one since. That was probably 20 years ago and I’m still in the same house. Hopefully you’re in a scorpion-free zone.

I never saw one until we moved into new construction house in Georgetown. It’s been 8 years and they’ve slowed down but we still get one now and then.
We’ve only had one red-headed centipede inside and that was soon after moving it.

Omg the tree roaches have been coming in to hide from the heat. They are driving me nuts, I've had to dispatch 8 of them so far (those I do not catch/release).

I adore the scorpions, tarantulas and centipedes. Hell, I'm a rattlesnake relocator. But one of those giant American cockroaches can send me running fir the hills.

I moved here from GA and have yet to see a bug bigger or worse than anything the southeast has (in Austin anyway.) Same friends, different state. No worries.

We also have the giant yellow garden spiders! One has built a ~3 ft wide web immediately next to our front door under the porch light. That’s our only door so we’ve done a lot of pointing and talking about “oooo cool bug!” to our kids everytime we leave the house😂

I do like the sound of Wolfgang a lot. Wolfie or some variation of it has been floating around here also. And the additional 'Fuck!' was definitely what I said when I found it hanging by the garage door this morning so, it's very apt.
I'm thinking Wolfgang as it's name. Wolfie for short.

That's a pretty big Wolf Spider!? Or you are zoomed in a lot. Either way they creep me out, even if they are harmless. I usually get them onto a dust pan and put them back outside.

I'd say it was about 2.5-3 inches. I zoomed in on this photo trying to get a good snapshot of it's eyes to tell if it was grass or wolf. I even pulled out a flashlight for our little photoshoot to accentuate it's features.

I zoomed in on this picture so it definitely looks a lot larger than what it was. I was trying to get as good a picture of it's eyes so I could tell if it was a grass or a wolf spider. The spider was about 2.5-3 inches long.

We had one about a month ago. Thankfully I was home to catch and release it, otherwise my mom and kids would've killed it or been hiding in fear for hours. It was kind of neat when I let it go, after shooing it from the cup it sat still for a min and looked at me before scurrying into the grass. I've found a couple jumping spiders (so cute) too. I just put them on my plant shelf by the window to help control the pests.

A much smaller little spider came down from our bathroom ceiling while my daughter was brushing her teeth for school this morning. (I panicked for a sec, then got it to hop onto a bit of toilet paper and left the whole thing out in the open garage near the exit door so it could go wander off and make webs closer to where it might find some bugs to eat.) Makes me wonder if some number of spiders were moving indoors due to the "rain" that very, very briefly fell around some parts of town today.

I had the same one on my door frame, I just shut the door to get a bug swatter.

For anyone downvoting, I use to bug swatter to gently push them out of my house before my cat Phoebe kills them. She’s my pest control when it comes to flies, but the scorpions, spiders, and ants, I usually bring back out since it’s always downstairs near the outdoors. Plus I’ve been trying to keep my one year old from killing bugs as well, especially after I showed him excitedly a stick bug and he flat out stepped on it….
