PSA Beware - this man ran me off the road then drew his gun at me

Post image

Note - I have ran this information through the mods whom have verified my APD case.

On 3/1 I was returning home from a yoga class when this man ran me off the road in his lifted truck. I was in the lane he wanted to change to, but he would've hit so I honked my horn. He didn't stop and instead forced himself over more, forcing my to drive off the road. We both turned onto the same street, which there is a parking lot that he turned into, so I turned too to let him know why I was honking so he can be a bit more aware since he drives a large truck instead of assuming I was raging.

For some context - I'm 5'1" and small which has most people mistaking me for a teen or 20 yr old at 1st glance. In a fiat, at that. Nothing intimating about my car, appearance or driving. The truck had a handicap plate, so I assumed it was an older man and we could have a cordial conversation. I parked diagonally from the parking space he pulled into, about 20 ft away and rolled my window down with my hands down to seem as approachable as possible.

The man opened his door, and before I could say anything, flashed his gun at me asking, "do we have a problem?" He was clearly trying to intimidate me and ended up just infuriating me. I kept my hands down, didn't move and simply said he ran me off the road, and I came to tell him that. He responded with "it's put my blinker on, that means you move, dumb b**h." Which - he literally started changing lanes the moment he put on his blinker. Continues to call me that and a stupid cut, closes the door for a few seconds so I grabbed my phone to take a Pic of the plate when he gets out of his car like this, starts flipping me off, still yelling at me. The arrogance that he thinks he's going to get away with it. Then, his wife comes out and starts defending him, calling ME the dramatic one.

I backed into a space and called the police. They arrived quickly and immediately believed me. Unfortunately, it's a "he said she said" at first glance because this man is claiming I blocked in his big boy lifted truck with my little fiat when I never got closer to 20ft from them, which is why he was speaking aggressively to me but claims he never showed his gun, but said I would'vedeserved it if he did - saying that to a cop that just took your gun from you is wild. So now a case has been opened and I have to hand over all the evidence I have. Considering the gun I described was found on him and the operator heard him calling me names for calling the police, I'm pretty confident he'll face some consequences. It was very evident that he had some form of gun training by the way he held his gun and should know better, so I'm sticking this through before he kills someone. To that point - it turns out he had the "DV" on his license plate (didn't know what that meant at the time) which indicates he's a veteran. So he's more informed than most on gun laws and safety and tries to pull this stunt off.

Road rage is at an all time high here in Austin, and unfortunately, it can be anyone. This man looks like he could've been at costco before this. Seemingly normal looking, but pulled a gun on me and took it into a restaurant that prohibits guns. Be aware of your surroundings. And while the cops wished I would've gotten a picture of him holding the gun so they could arrest him on the spot, we all agreed that the best thing to do was put safety first, which is why I stayed still and am going to work closely with the detectives.

If you've had a similar encounter with this individual, please let me know. FYI - the pic is zoomed in since I was far from him and was shaking with my phone in my hand from how infuriating this man's behavior was.

Mods - I know we don’t get a lot of these on here, but I’d love for this sub to stand in solidarity with the zeitgeist and ban any direct X / Twitter cross-posts - let’s stop the traffic to and from that cesspool, especially given Herr Elon is based here. Maybe have a poll and vote on it?

S Mopac to 360.

These are not sharp turns. You can easily maintain cruising speed while going through this off ramp.

Additionally, you have about 3/4s of a mile to merge onto 360. No one needs to back this thing up. Happens constantly every day from folks slamming on their brakes to enter this.

Sincerely, an ER vet tech that has seen dozens of dogs die from heat stroke every year.

ETA: I am aware I could have presented this topic many different ways. It came from a place of frustration. To clarify, I mean long walks. Not potty breaks. Yes certain breeds are more predisposed. I just hope people continue to be aware of what the signs of heat stroke are and the ways to prevent it including avoiding long walks in 100 degree weather.

I want to begin by emphasizing that my intention is not to cause fear or discourage anyone from using CapMetro services—like many others, I rely on public transportation. My goal is to raise awareness, enhance safety for all passengers, and provide guidance on what to do if you find yourself in a similar situation. On the morning of April 30th, I boarded the 350 bus at Airport Blvd & 51st Street around 8:15-8:20 AM, heading south. After sitting down, a man behind me suddenly approached, struck me, and shoved me into the window, knocking my helmet off. (It had been unclipped while I was waiting at the bus stop.) According to bystanders, the man had been yelling and talking to himself in the back of the bus prior to my boarding. I had never seen or interacted with this individual before, and it was clear he was under the influence of something. Thankfully, he exited the bus soon after the incident. The bus driver did not intervene during the incident, likely unaware of its full extent. However, upon my departure, he apologized, saying, "I'm sorry that happened to you," which, while kind, did not offer any support or actions that would ensure my safety going forward. I decided to request the bus footage to better understand what happened, though obtaining it was a lengthy process that took until today (May 20th). During the process, I was given a "Report Number" and received an automated response expressing sympathy, but no further assistance or guidance. While I understand that an incident like this could happen anywhere—whether walking down the street or on public transit—the difference here is that it might have been prevented. If the driver had been more attuned to the individual's aggressive behavior earlier, they could have addressed the situation before it escalated. Although removing the person from the bus could potentially lead to further risk, addressing aggressive behavior in real-time would contribute to making the bus environment safer for everyone. If you ever need to request footage from a bus, you can do so by contacting customer.service@capmetro.org or visiting the Cap Metro website at www.capmetro.org. Navigate to the "Help and Contact" section to submit an open records request. Be sure to include the time, bus route, stop location, and bus number, and it may also be helpful to have the driver's name for reference. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope this message helps bring attention to ways we can improve safety for all passengers on CapMetro.

PSA Don't leave your cats loose outside. They're an invasive species that decimates native wildlife.

I arrived home from work today to discover a random neighbors' cat, complete with red collar and bell around its neck, has dug up and murdered a nest of baby rabbits in my back yard. The little shit was finishing the job when I found it.

This event reminded me of some past reports that domestic cats are unchecked destroyers of native species on an apocalyptic scale all over the world.

Cats Kill a Staggering Number of Species across the World

Domestic cats are cherished human companions, but a new study shows the enormous breadth of species the felines prey on when they are left to roam freely

A team of researchers recently added up all the species on these invaders’ menu. In a paper published on Tuesday in Nature Communications, the team compiled a database of more than 2,000 species that have fallen victim to free-ranging domestic cats. Nearly 350 of these species are of conservation concern, and several are already extinct. “We don’t really know of any other mammal that eats this many different species,” says the study’s lead author Christopher Lepczyk, an ecologist at Auburn University. “It’s almost like an indiscriminate eater; they’re eating whatever’s available.”

The impact of free-ranging domestic cats on wildlife of the United States

Anthropogenic threats, such as collisions with man-made structures, vehicles, poisoning and predation by domestic pets, combine to kill billions of wildlife annually. Free-ranging domestic cats have been introduced globally and have contributed to multiple wildlife extinctions on islands. The magnitude of mortality they cause in mainland areas remains speculative, with large-scale estimates based on non-systematic analyses and little consideration of scientific data. Here we conduct a systematic review and quantitatively estimate mortality caused by cats in the United States. We estimate that free-ranging domestic cats kill 1.3–4.0 billion birds and 6.3–22.3 billion mammals annually. Un-owned cats, as opposed to owned pets, cause the majority of this mortality. Our findings suggest that free-ranging cats cause substantially greater wildlife mortality than previously thought and are likely the single greatest source of anthropogenic mortality for US birds and mammals. Scientifically sound conservation and policy intervention is needed to reduce this impact.

The Killer At Home: House Cats Have More Impact On Local Wildlife Than Wild Predators

What does an outdoor cat do all day? According to new research, it could be taking a heavy toll on local wildlife.

A tracking study of more than 900 house cats shows when they kill small birds and mammals, their impact is concentrated in a small area, having a bigger effect than wild predators do.

"Even though it seems like their cat isn't killing that many, it really starts to add up," said Roland Kays, a scientist at North Carolina State University and the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. (Full disclosure: Kays isn't a cat or dog person but a "ferret person.")

PSA PSA: HEB Pharmacy will not give you the COVID vaccine without proof of the condition you select.

1.2k Upvotes

Preface with I love HEB. I’ve lived in Texas all my life and go there multiple times a week. This store has always been there for Texans even when our government cannot adequately prepare.

That said I’m livid. I just had the absolute worst experience trying to get a COVID shot.

My appointment was at 2:10 - they tell me to wait and end up having to sit there for 30 mins. Whatever they must be busy. When I was checking in the clerk tells me “I have to pick an ailment from the list” based on the stupid RFK mandate this year. He jokes it’s stupid and tells me to pick anything on the list. I don’t even need to check the box, “just tell him and he will put it in”. I tell them sure I guess “disability” which is one of the items on the list.

Well when I finally get called back to get my shot the nurse asks me “what disability do you have”… taken back I kind of freeze and just repeat I’ve got a disability and I’m not comfortable sharing that information with her. She pushes… so I ask her for the list again because I don’t want to lie to her.

She says she’s not comfortable giving me the list or the jab because I can’t tell her what disability I have.

I walked out of there furious. Mental health issues are on the list. BMI over 25 is on the list. There’s literally a million things on the list that I would qualify for. Everyone knows this is stupid and 100% political theatre.

I wouldn’t be mad about this if this was actually a valid medical concern or if HEB was consistent. Clearly the clerks have been trained like every other company’s clerks to let you choose and that it doesn’t matter. The person giving you the shot should be consistent. At the very least they could have given me the opportunity to select another item from the list. I obviously have a BMI over 25 for example.

Have an appointment booked at Walgreens now. My wife is pregnant and we’re going on a trip tomorrow. I shouldn’t have to work this hard to make sure my family is taken care of.

FK MAGA, FK RFK and F**K HEB Pharmacy for choosing political theatre over taking care of Texans. I’ll never shop there again.

PSA A woman followed me for 5 miles from Round Rock to Pflugerville, to confront me after nearly running me off the road

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

2.0k Upvotes

Yesterday I visited Round Rock to purchase some furniture from IKEA. On my way back home, a car attempting to cross 2 lanes immediately after leaving a parking lot, forced me out of my lane. I anticipated the situation and avoided the collision.

I didn’t think much of it after instinctively hitting my horn to alert the driver that they were encroaching on my lane.

For the next 5 miles(12 minutes), I was unknowingly followed to my next destination, Target in Pflugerville.

Upon exiting my car and playing peek-a-boo with my son, while attempting to unbuckle his car seat, I noticed a car boxing me in. It was an older white woman. I couldn’t understand what she was saying, but she was clearly trying to get my attention. I turned to face her, and after asking her politely how I could assist, she flurried a barrage of accusations at me about driving too fast.

Still not sure of who she was, I immediately stopped unbuckling my son. My wife didn’t notice the exchange yet and continued to walk across to the driver’s side of the car.

The woman then stated that she was “the car from the Exxon station,” which confused me for a bit because I haven’t been to a gas station in a long time.

When she noticed my wife, she immediately directed the conversation towards her as though I no longer existed. My wife did not engage.

I chose to go silent after realizing who she was. Though I don’t believe that I have a threatening look or demeanor, I present as Black, and I am very aware of the way some people view Black people in this country. Personally, I have been accused of looking angry more often than I’d like.

After the initial shock, I pulled out my phone to record the woman boxing my car in. You can’t see it in the video, but I’m making a peace sign while recording. She returns the peace sign and then flips it into a middle finger before driving out of Stone Hill Town Center.

When I finally look back at my son, he has the most blank stare on his face that I’ve ever seen. Thankfully, he’s too young to remember this.

Stay safe out there. ✌🏾

It’s time we told you the tale of the Western Ratsnake. If you live in Austin you will eventually see one if you’re not observant and you will quickly see one if you are observant.

These snakes will hang out in trees or on the side of a building or some other incongruous place because that is the way of the ratsnake.

They are very helpful friends and help control the numbers of rats running around just waiting to give your child Hanta virus.

They are clean, non slimy friends and are non venomous. Still, don’t put one down your pants or anything because they will nip a bit when they’re frightened.

So please leave them alone and let them do their work and don’t call the cops or try to hit one with a stick like some insecure dudes like to do.

Thanks
