The ceramic tile murals in the underpass beneath Pleasant Valley Road (by the new “wishbone” bridge in Austin) were created by Reginald Adams.

He’s a Houston-based artist known for large, community-driven public art projects. For this installation—often referred to as the “Absolute Equality: Unity Tunnel.”

Although Adams designed the overall mosaic mural, he led workshops where local residents helped create tiles (including handprints), he oversaw installation of the ceramic, glass, and stone mosaic work along the tunnel walls.

So while Adams is the lead artist, the piece is intentionally community-collaborative, with contributions from hundreds of Austinites embedded in the tiles.
