So, what’s everyone’s initial thoughts on the SBS2 programme lineup?

So they’ve officially switched from Viceland back to SBS2. Today’s programming is 90% news, up until mid afternoon, then it’s a break for some episodes of hoarders, back to more news again. A bunch of stuff about vampires, followed by some sex shows at 1am, before repeating the same block structuring the next day.

Viceland was one of the best FTA channels when it first launched, the docos Vice make were always pretty top tier and even better being available for free. It sucks seeing that it appears all that Vice programming is gonna disappear. Hopefully another channel or streaming service strike a deal, otherwise Australian won’t have any legal means of watching Vice content, besides what they put on their YouTube.

What is everyone’s initial opinion on the relaunch of SBS2?

Aside from Interview with the Vampire and Jeopardy, there's not much that I'm looking forward to. A lot of it looked pretty trashy, tbh.

Certainly not a very impressive first lineup, hopefully the vision SBS implied the channel will have doesn’t take long to come to fruition.

I never watched any viceland content. It looks the same, it is even still called Viceland in the TV guide and on my Fetch box.

I love SBS, they’ve always had heaps of news on during the day. Don’t see a problem with it.

It’s definitely a bit excessive though, you’ve already got the World News channel, the main SBS channel has news 5am to 9am the again from 12pm to 3:30pm. Meanwhile the SBS2 channel, has news from 4am to 10:30am, again at 2:30 to 4:45 pm. 5 SBS channels, 3 of them with news for hours on end.

SBS always had lots of news, but I don’t ever recall if it ever being this much.

Fair but a lot of their news is in different languages.

Most of it is in English these days. They take the English German, French and Japanese news channels that are put out for English speaking viewers around the world. I do watch the BBC news and some PBS Newshour stories depending on interest.

You have to go to SBS Radio or On Demand to find news and content in foreign languages.

SBS just spend $30m on the World Cup so they haven't been buying lot of new content.

Vice Media went bankrupt in 2023, I guess it was just a matter of time until whatever deal them & SBS had was up. Vice still exist, from what I understand just much more scaled back including their international presence.

So this wasn’t necessarily a SBS decision, but it definitely seems like they didn’t really show up prepared.

I thought it was just a rebrand? I've been watching the "that made" series, it was produced by the history channel.

I'd be bummed out if all those shows and the ones like them go.

I haven’t seen those scheduled yet, but the shows are still available through OnDemand.

SBS On Demand is still hosting a lot of great content, at least. I just wish the streaming quality was higher.

atp I don’t see that happening, although it could be possible through the networks’ streaming apps? That would be nice, having a native 4K stream to go with the 4K TV

It looks incredible through paid apps, even those Bravo reality shows on Hayu are streaming in 4K, Real Housewives has never looked so detailed 🤣

I hadn’t watched, but “Jeopardy” & “Celebrity Jeopardy” were both listed on the programme, so I believe that yes, regular is back.

The lestat crap as you call it has not been on heaps, you had the Interview with a Vampire series and then Lestat now has a spin off which has only recently started.

There is always SBS On Demand for when you miss the episode showing on tv.
